London Cohn Exciiakur , huxday , Jan . 10 . — l'licing last week the arrivals of wheat of home produce for our market were on a very moderate scale , and of unusually inferior quality . Of English bailey and malt the receipts were tolerably good , but those of oats , beans , yens , and Hour , were small . From Scotland , very little grain of any description came to hand , while the only arrival from Ireland was live quarters of malt . The fresh supply of foreign wheat and oats was seasonably extensive , but that of all other articles was limited . Fresh up to-day , only a limited supply of wheat came to hand coastwise arid by land carriage and sample , hence the stands were scantily supplied with samples of that grain in vevv
l ) iul condition . The uncertainty which still exists respecting the nature of the forthcoming chnnsc in tho Corn Laws caused the dealers to purahasewith extreme eautkru . Wo have , therefore to report a very dull inquiry for English wheat , ami where sales were effected the holders were compelled to submit to a further decline in the quotations of from Is . to in some instances , 2 s . per quarter , and at which a clearance was not effected . The show of free foreign wheat was small , nevertheless iiuinirv for it was extremely dull , yet we can notice no decided iiltcrntion in ^ value , the importers not beinjr disposed to accept fil lovorHgurisuiulerexistim ; circumstances . The quantity of English barley on show was rather more than equal to the wants of the buvers selected qualities of malting may be considered quito as dear , but grinding and distilling sorts were a triflo easier . At the close of the market a large portion of the latter was left over . There was a fair supply of malt on offer . Although the malt trade was far from active , about an average business was doing at about previous currencies . Notwithstanding the extremely
short supply of oats , holders of that article were unable to obtain higher prices , the oat trade ruling inactive at about stationary rates . The dealers generally are now short of stock . The supply of beans was by no means large , yet the sale was heavy , and tiie rates had a downward tendency . Of peas , the quantity on offer was hut moderate . All kinds sold heavily at barely , but at nothing quotable beneath , last Monday ' s prices . The flour trade wag very dull , and it was with difficulty that the millers obtained late rates , even for the best town-made qualities .
