'Tis Usance That, When Princes Deign
? Tis said that , when God ' s sun pourtrays The " human face divine , "
Deep charactersmost hidden traits From inwards , outwards shine ; And herebeneath the surface charms ,
The loveliness , of earth , Lies deep below the beauty warm ,
The soul ' s divinest worth . No colour needs where all is light .
O artist high and rare ! ¦ W With hat cour sun tl - work painter ' s highest fli ? ght may compare
For here , by truth and light is wrought A face of human saint ;
This fair , pale brow , so clear with thought _. These eyes—what brush could paint ?
_j And yet , though all its spell may own , Its beauty all may see
, It keeps one charm for me alone , One meaning but for me !
Yes ! gazing long on these dear eyes , They answer back to mine ;
They grant me that which most I prize , With love for me they shine I
In truth , a favour'd courtier I ! With rapture sweet and keen ,
I hail this . mark of favour high , This portrait of my Queen .
The carte that bears so dear a face , Where charms and worth combine ,
Is framedin beauty ' s splendid case , And " set , in brilliants " fine ! Scuhtze Wilson
