Two main objects seem to be contemplated in this plan . First , the counteraction of the demoralizing * influences of factory life
es st p improve ecially on the young leisure time girls , , enli by gh an ten organization the intellect , train which the should mind ,
and provide generally for the comfort , recreation , and welfare of the workers "—a result which " can only be effected by beginning
in a distinct establishment , with the younger females , who have not acquired the prejudices and evil associations of the older ones ,
thereby forming the character and habits of the future Mothers of Factory Workersby a training in industryeconomycleanliness
and uprightness . " , , , , The second object of this plan is the ocOTpation in factory work

for factory emp workers , an opportunity will also be provided for the maintenance , employment , and training of Orphans , the Deaf and
Dumb , and the Destitute generally , by the labor of the parties themselves . " _" Another class of persons , viz ., Girls from Reformatories ,
who might be benefited hy such an Institution , has been sug ' gested who by Miss in her Carpen paper ter , t he t ' Disposal Red L of Girls ge Girls from ' Reformatory Reformatories , Bris " read tol ,

of Carlisle , says , —A plan has been proposed hy W . Wood , EsqM . P . for Pontefractwhich admirably meets this difficulty
viz . ., That of disposing of , Girls whose characters may he relied on , , but , who are not well adapted to domestic service . ' After making
a lengthy quotation from the plan proposed , she added : The bearing of such a plan on Reformatories appears likely to be most
valuable , and to supply a want hitherto greatly felt . Our Girls h mi ad ght the thus satisfac be t g raduall n of feelin y pre g p t ared hat t hey en w t ire gaining freedom , their while liveli they

without loss of time , for we shall find it most valuable for the reception of many of the Girls who ere long will be leaving our
'"Reformatories . It appears to us that , as a general rule , it is to these exceptional
classes of persons that such an Institution would be most useful . Where young persons are so fortunate as to possess honest and
decent homes , it is seldom desirable that they should quit such to become permanently absorbed in a community of their own sex .
But such an establishment , though an imperfect substitute for a natural family home , would be a most blessed provision for those
who have no real or available home at all . And with how many Wood thousands the is ori this inator the of case this ? lan What is the especi assistance ally desired of Ladies by who Mr .
