"In this v chime we have some exceedingly smart sketches of various public vaen . " r ~ Chnrch and State Gazette . " These portraits of what the author-terms the ' Govera'ing Classes of Great Britain' are republished , from the Leader Newspaper , and'forni a little Thesaurus of information of a peculiar and interesting character . "—Leeds Times " Th ^ eo lively sketches of living political characters aro many of them admirably written , always satirical in spirit , and occasionally far-seeing in thoir ken . There are points winch Thackeray could hardly have done better . "—2 ? ra . " . The author of this book has distinguished himself by . inventing , if wo may so speak , quite a new style of uewspaper-comment on Parliamentary men and proceedings . If we are not greatly mistaken , Mr . Whitty ' s name will yet bo a conspicuous one in tho world of journalism . Tho main notion of the work is that Great Britain is under a mistake in considering itself a self-governed country , Mr . Whitty seems to have no political preferences . We know no -political ¦ writing ' of tho day showing a harder head , a more rathless frankness , ' than Mr . AVhitty ' s . Add to'this a great faud of political'Knowledge , mid-a-powcr of witty expression . " — Co mm ontveal t h . Tbubueu and Co ., 12 , Patcrnostor-Tow .
