He expressed an ardent hope that people in general would read the books which are now in circulation upon
the subject of Negro Slavery , in order that they may be prepared to sign petitions to Parliament against it , which they will shortly be called upon to do . The company were much gratified by hearing , that au order had been sent out by the government of this country to lay
aside the whip , at least as to the females ^ About five o ' clock , the elegant present of plate which had been provided by Mr . Toins ' s congregation and friends to be presented to him pn this occasion , as a token of their high regard and esteem for him , was , brought into the room .
Mr . S . Keer , of Creungham , presented it to his venerable pastor , and addressed him in a very interesting manner to the following effect : " Rev . Sir , I rise to address you in the name of the church an 4 congregation , as their beloved and highly-esteemed pastor ,-and to beg your
