With the Number for January 1815 , to be published on the First of February , will be given an Engraved Portrait of the late Reverend Dr . Priestley ; which the Editor designs , if the public patronage shall enable him to execute his purpose , as the first of a series of heads , likenesses of eminent Unitarian writers . The second Engraving which the Editor contemplates is from a portrait , that has lately come into his possession , of the Unitarian martyr , Michael Servetus : but the time of its appearance must depend upon the reception which the improved Volume shall meet with .
Once more , the Editor solicits the support and co-operation of all his fellow-Christians who agree with him as to the desirableness of maintaining and spreading a Theological Magazine which is open to free and at the same time temperate discussion , and which avows and cherishes the Protestant principle , that the Bible , and the Bible only , is the standard and authority of revealed religion , and consequently that every individual Christian may of right , and should as matter of duty , resolutely form and openly declare his judgment of the sense of scripture .
The Editor will add only , that the New Year is about to set in auspiciously , and that the return of Peace is likely , under the blessing of a gracious Providence , to favour the hopes and exertions of all who consult the best interests of the human race .
