This signal success is not attributable to any system of advertising , but solely to the strong recommendations of parties cured by their use . The Proprietors of Parr ' s Life Pill ' s have now in their possession upwards of lifteen hundred letters , several of them from Clergymen of the Church of England , many from distinguished issenting Ministers , from gentlemen connected with the Army and Navy , also from Members of Parliament , Merchants , and last , though notleast , from members of the Medical Profession , and a skilful Analytical Chemist ; all speaking in tbehighest terms of thcvalueof this inestimable medicine . This Is a mass of evidence in its favour beyond all parallel . The extraordinary properties of this medieiae are thus described by an eminent physician , who says , "After particular observation of the action of Parr ' s Pills , I am determined , in my opinion , tliat the following are their true properties : — "Pirst They inereasethe strength , whilst most other medicines hare a weakening effect upon the system . Let any one take from three to four or sis pills every twentyfour hours , and instead of having weakened , they will be found to have revived the animal spirits , and to have imparted a lasting strength to the body . "Secondly—In their operation they go direct to the disease . After you have taken six or twelve pills you will experience their effect ; the disease upon you will become less and less by every dose jou take , and if you persevere in regularly taking from three to six pills « rery day , yonr disease will speedily be entirely removed from the system . H Thirdly—They are found after giving them a fair trial fora Ipw weeks to possess the most astonishing and invigorating properties , and they will overcome all obstinate complaints , and restore sound health ; there is a return of good appetite shortly from the beginning of their use , wliilst their mildness as a purgatire Is a desideratum greatly required by the weak and delicate , particularly where -violent purging is acknowledged to be injurious instead of beneficial . Fourthly—As a general Family Mediaine they are exceedingly valuable , and no family should be without them ; they may be used with perfect safety in any disease , for to every disease they are of inestimable value . John Dale , Esq ., of Manchester , Lecturer on Chemistry , and Pupil of the late celebrated Dr . Dalton , F . R . S ., in a letter addressed to the Prop rietors in London , says : —' 1 beg to slate I find them worthy of being recommended to thepublic fo rtheir effieacyand simplicity , and to be really vegetablepiils , containing , as they do , nothing but what is of vegetable origin . "With this assurance the public need have no fear of g iving them a fair trial . "Fifthly—There is no medicine everintroduced to the puDlic that has bscome so universally popular with females as Parr's Life Pills . For all complaints peculiar to females they are of most astonishing efficacy- } -and they are confidently recommended to them for general use . A trial of a box of these p ills will at once prove the truth of this assertion . IMPORTANT TO THE PUBLIC . ""We consider we are performing an act of humanity to the community of Van Dieman's Land in acknowledging that statements have been made to us by several persons who have taken Parr ' s Life Pills , with the most her eficial effect to them . Accounts of their efficacy have b « n furnished us by various individuals who have taken them , since the supply furnished by the patentees in EngNnd to Mr . Dowling ; but they have generally savoured sC much of the marvellous , that we have hesitated to mike the statements public . However , we are now satisfied from further accounts given to us , that tohesiUtelonger would be perpetrating an act of criminal omission to our fellowcroatures , and having taken the pills ourselves with the most satisfactory result , we perform an act of dfcty only in most strongly recommending the Hse of thesj to the public at large . This we feel the more confidence in doing , knowing that under any circumstances they cannot do harm ; and our conscientious belief is , ftat they cannot bs taken by any person without doing J Vn good . " —Cornwall ( Van Dieman ' s Land ) GiKif' Jec . 23 rd , The medicine , of Old Parr is thenr . ttpopular of the present day . It has been before th » public only a few years ; and in this short period has Irmly established itself in public favour , ana las efiV " edinimense benefit to all who have obtained thin A « iimaWc medicine genuine . Hence the list of w < i . actable names bearing evidence to the high character oi this rertt 3 y , and testifying beyond the possibility of doubt the -noiderful character of the medicine by the number of extraordinary and decided cures wholly resulting from its use . This medieine , solely by reason of its high character , has extended itself to all parts of tht world ; and therefore its healing virtues may justly be considered universal . Agents are now established in every town in the United Kingdom , and persons desirous of testing the character of Parr ' s life Pills may obtain printed copies of authenticated Testimonials , relating satisfactory particulars of cures effected by this remedy . WRAT'S BALSAMIC PILLS , a certain , safe , and the most speedy remedy ever discovered for the permanentand effectual cure of strictures , seminal weakness , pains in the loins , affections of the kidneys , gravel , rheumatism , lumbago , gonorrhoea , gleets , local debility , irritation of the bladder or urethra , and other diseases of the urinary passages . The unprecedented success that has attended the administration of these pills , since they were made public , has acquired for them a sale more extensive than any other proprietary medicine extant , and the circumstance of their entirely obviating the necessity of having recourse to those disgusting , nauseous , and in many cases highly injurious medicines ( as copaiba , cubebs , Ac ) , has obtained for them a reputation unequalled in the annals of medicine . Prior to being advertised , these pills were employed in prirate practice in upwards of 1 , 800 cases , many of them most inveterate—in many thousand cases since , and in no one instance known to fail , or to produce those unpk-asant symptoms so often experienced £ hilc taking copaiba , and that class of medicines usually resorted to in these complaints . The proprietor pledges himself that not one particle of copaiba , either resin or balsam , cubebs , or any deleterious ingredient , enters their composition . Copaiba and cubebs have long been the most commonl y employed medicines in the above complaints ; but , from the uncertainty in their effects , together with their utterinefficacy in many cases , are fast declining in reputation ; and , from th « unpleasant symptoms invariably produced from taking copaiba , especiall y in the early stage of the complaint , many of the most able modern practitioners condemn it as dangerous , and a medicine not to be depended upon . Hany persons , after having suffered more from the effects of the remedy than the-virulence of the disease , and , after a patient but painful perseverance , have been compelled to relinquish its use , the whole system having became more or less affected , and the disease as bad , if not worse , than at the eomnieue&ment As regards cubebs , it is true that those raolent effects are not experienced as while laking copaiba , but they seldom effect a cure , unless inure active medicines are administered . " The Balsamic Pills are free from any of the above objections ; they act specifically on the urinary passages : and , from their tonic properties , tend to strengthen the system and improve the g « nei'al health . They require neither confinement nor alteration of diet ( except abstinence from stimulants , -ivhere considerable inflammation exists ) , and , as experience has amply proved , they will effect a cure sooner than copaiba ( the dangerpus results of which , in the inflammatory stages , are too well known to need comment ) , or any other medicine in present use , and may be justiy considered the only safe and efficacious remedy in all stages of those disorders . In addition to theseadvantages , the very convenient form in which this Invaluable preparation is offered to the public , must als * a desideratum . Prepared only by ST . O . They are so j fixed as to fasten any loose teeth where the gums have shrunk from the use of calomel or other causes . They also beg to invite those not Wring to undergo any paimful operation , as practised by most members of the profession , to inspect their painless jet effective system ; and * in j order that their improvements- may bo within the reackof j themost economical , they will continue thesamemoderaite charges . _ j Messrs Thomas and Howard , Surgeon-Dentists , 64 , j Berners-street , Oxford-street , London , At home from < ten till four . Sir , Various circumstances prevented the possibility of my thanking you before this time for your politeness in sending me your pills as you did . I now take this opportunity of sending you an order for the amount , and , at the same time , to add that your pills have effected a cure of a disorder in my liver and stomach , which all the most eminent of the faculty at home , and all over the continent , had not been able to effect ; nay ! not even the waters of Carlsbad and Marienbad . I wish to have another box and a pot of the ointment , in case any of my family should ever require either . Your most obliged and obedient servant , ( Signed ) Aldbouough . A Wonderful Cure Of Dropsy of Five Tears ' standing . Copy of a Letter from ' Mr . Thomas Taylor , Chemist , Stockton , Durham , 17 th April , 1815 : — To Professor Holloway . Sir , —I think it my duty to inform you that Mrs . dough , wife of Mr . John Clougb , a respectable farmer of Acklam , within four miles of this place , had been suffering from dropsy for five years , and had had the best medical advice , without receiving any relief . Hearing of your pills and ointment , she used them with such surprising benefit that , in fact , she has now given them up , being so well , and quite able to attend to her household duties as formerly , which she never expected to do again . I h ad almost forgotten to state that she was given up by the faculty as incurable . When she used to get up in the morning it was impossible to discover a feature in her face , being in such a faarful state . This cure is entirely by the use of your medicines . "We regard tte work before us , the " Silent Friend , " as a work embracing most clear and practical views of a series of complaints hitherto little understood , and passed over by Uie majority of the medical profession , for what reason we are at a loss to know . We must , however , confess that a perusal of this work has left such a favourable impression on our minds , that we not only recommend , but cordially wish every one who is the victim of past folly , or suffering from indiscretion , to profit by the advice contained in its pages . "—Age and Argus . "Ths Authors of the " Silent Friend" seem to be thoroughly conversant with the treatment of a class of complaints which are , we fear , too prevalent in the present day . The perspicuous style in which this book is written , and the valuable hints it conveys to those who are apprehensive of entering the marriage stale , cannot fail to recommend it to a careful perusal . "—Era . " This work should be read by all who value health and wish to enj ^ y life , for the truisms therein contained def y all doubt . —Farmers' Journal . THE CORDIAL BALM OF SYRIACUM Is intended to relieve those persons , who , by an immoderate indulgence of their passions , have ruined their constitutions , or in their way to the consummation of that deplorable state , are affected with any of those previous symptoms that betray its approach , as the various affections of the nervous system , obstinate gleets , excesses , irregularity , obstructions of certain evacuations , weakness , total impotency , barrenness , &c . This medicine is particularly recommended to be taken before persons enter into the matrimonial state , lest , in the event of procreation occurring , the innocent offspring should bear enstatnped upon it the physical characters derivable from parental debility . Price lls ., or the quantity of four at lls . in one bottle for 33 s ., by which lls . is saved ; the £ 5 cases may be had as usual , which is a saving ef £ 112 s . Price lls ., or four bottles in one for 33 s ., by which 11 b . is saved , also in £ 5 cases , which saves SI 12 s . Venereal contamination , if not at first eradicated , will often remain secretly lurking in ths system for years , and , although for a while undiscovered , at length break out upon the unhappy individual in its most dreadful forms ; or else , unseen , internally endanger the very vital organs of existence . To those suffering from the consequences which this disease may hare left behind in th e form of secondary symptoms , eruptions of the skin , blotehes on the head and face , ulcerations and enlargement of the throat , tonsils , and threatened destruction of the nose , palate , &c ., nodes on the shin bones , or any of those painful affections arising from the dangerous effects of the indiscriminate use of mercury , or the evils of an imperfect cure , the Concentrated Detersive Essence will be found to be attended witli the most astonishing effects , in checking the ravages of the disorder , removing all scorbutic complaints , and effectuall y re-establishing the lualth of the constitution . To persons entering upon the responsibilities of matrimony , and who ever had the misfortune during their more youthful days to be affected with any tbvm of these diseases , a previous course of this medicine is highly essential , and of the greatest importance , as more serious affections are visited upon an innocent wife and offspring , from a want of these simple precautions , than perhaps half the world is aware of ; for , it must be remembered , ivhere the fountain is polluted , the streams that flow from it eaanot be pure . Loxdon Corn Exchange , Monday , Dec . 22 In the past week the arrivals of wheat of home produce for our market were moderately good , but by no means extensive . Of English barley a large quantity came to hand , while the receipts of all other articles of grain coastwise were seasonably large . The imports of foreign and colonial wheat and flour were considerably on the increase , but those of all other descriptions of grain were rather small . Fresh up to-day—owing in a great measure to the late decline in the quotations here , the supplies of English wheat , coastwise as well as by land carriage and sample , were very small , and of very inferior quality ; hence the show of parcels of both red and white was by far more limited than we have had te renortfor
some time past , lhis circumstance , together with the fact that most of the large dealers , who have lately refrained from purchasing beyond what they have required to meet their immediate wants , out of shortjstock , caused the demand for all kindsjof English wheat to rule firm , at an advance in the currencies realised on this day se ' nnight of from Is to 2 s per qr , at which a good clearance was effected by the factors . Notwithstanding the large arrivals of foreign wheat , 27 , 000 qrs last week , theshow of parcels ( dutv paid ) to-day was very small . Still , however , the sale for that article was in a very sluggish state , the transactions being wholly of a retail nature , at last week s prices . Corn under lock was so inactive that prices ruled almost nominal . This applies equally *» wneat , barley , oats , beans , and peas . The show oi English barley was large ; yet , owing to the out-of condition state in which the principal portion of it
came to Hand , the best malting qualities sold somewhat freely , at full rates of currency . In grinding and distilling sorts , next to nothing was doin ° -. Ot * malt , we had a moderate supply on show . All kinds were in sluggish request , at barely , but at nothing quotable beneath the prices paid on this day se ' nni « ht Ihe supply of oaf s was seasonably good . The dealers being ratherout of stock , rather more inclination was manifested to do business in that article , vet the sales concluded were only on a moderate scale , and no advance took place in the value . At the close of the market , a clearance was not effected . The show ot beans was moderately extensive . Most kinds were m slow request , at last week ' s prices . White and Maple peas were quite as dear ; but other kinds were very dull . Flour moved off heavily , the highest 2801 b madC n 0 t excecdin * > P er
