Murray , ot Aneoats , who is in custody on suspicion , pt having thrown a young woman named Ann Ellison into the Rochdale canal , at Newton , near this town , vasbrought up at the Salford New Bailey for examina ' tion , before 11 . L . Trafford , and James Hayward . iiisqrs . ' ' Mr . Bcswick , chief superintendent of the Man . Chester borough police , conducted the prosecution and the prisoner was defended by Mr . Aspinall . The evidence was to the following effect - —On the ? evening of the 10 th of December last , at about halfpast nine o ' clock , a man named Scott , who lives near the Rochdale canal , at Newton , observed a young man and woman walking together on the towing patli of the canal , but on the other side of the water to where he was standing .
