Auoi Watcner York.—Affray With Poachers.—On Suncfay Morning Last, About Two O'Clock, As Wood, An Under-
auoi watcner YORK . —Affray with Poachers . —On Suncfay morning last , about two o ' clock , as Wood , an under-
Keeper , ana ner man , m , upon me estates of Lord Wenlock , of Escrick Park , wore going their rounds near to the Tilmire , they heard the report of a gun , and on going to tho spot from whence the report proceeded , they found three poachers , two of whom they knew , but the third they could not identify . The first of the three , Simeon Goodrick , presented his piece , and told the keeper and watcher to stand back , or they should have it . The Becond , whose name is Richard Goodrick , also shouldered his gun , and said , "Stand back , or you shall have it all . " The keeper answered " Well , I can give you as much . " The watchers then turned round , the
keeper saying , "Good morning ,-1 know you , " and then proceeded to the head keeper , to whom they related the above circumstances . At his request , information waa forwarded to the York police , who refused to act in the matter without a warrant . About one o'clock on Sunday , the keeper and some assistants proceeded to Fulford in search of the Goodricks , when they found Simeon at the house of a person named Hallett , and took him in custody to the Bay Horse public house . In consequence of his violent conduct it waa deemed adrisable to procure more assistance from Escrick , but whilst this was being done , Goodricks' friends mustered in strong numbers , and seemed inclined to rescue the individual already in custody , and a regular row ensued . Simeon , who had been previously handcuffed , coutrived to set one hand at liberty , and with the handcuff suspended from the other wrist , aimed a violent blow at one of the party , which fortunately did not reach its destination . The keeper immediately sprang at
Goodrick , and giving him a severe blow with his fist on the forehead , laid him insensible , the blood running copiously from the place , which was laid open . Goodrick remained in this state for some timo , when it was found necessary to remove htm to bed , and a surgeon was Btat for . On Monday a warrant was obtained for the apprehension of the two Goodricks , and was placed in the hands of Turner and other three policemen of York . They proceeded to Fulford , where they met Richard Goodrick in the town street ; and it was not till after they had thrown him upon the ground , that he would submit to be taken into custody . He was then removed in a cab to York Castle . On the following morning the two Goodticks , who are brothers , and notorious poachers , were taken before the Rev . John Ion , of Barlby , and after an examination of about seven hours , they were both committed for trial at the next Assizes . They were , however , afterwards admitted to bail .
Manslaughter in York . —On Saturday afternoon last , an inquest was held at the Turks Head , in St . Andrewgate , York , on the body of a commercial traveller , named John Charles Warren , who died from injuries received in an affray in that street , at an early hour on Friday mornisg . The evidence was of great length , and went to show that the deceased , in company with Mr . Wm , Henry Monkman , solicitor , had spent the evening , on Thursday , at the Star Inn , in Stoncgate , from which place they , went to Mrs . Tyne ' s , in St . Androwgate , in which street they were accosted by a B >* ftnaraedvWm . Plewesand another , and by whom Mr . Mo » k » i » if * - » nd ik » deceased wore attacked . The deceased was much injured , though at first he was not cdnBJdered to be in danger , iinsensibility , however , afterwards ensued , aud he died at Mrs . Tyno ' s , on Saturday morning . The evidence went to fix Plewes with being the offender , and the jury , after a long consultation , returned a Verdict of manslaughter against him , and he was committed to York Castle .

Thb late Robbery at Windsor Castle . —The sixteen-shillings-a-week porter , who absconded from Windsor Castle on the discovery of the recent extensive robberies , has been apprehended , and has undergone several examinations . The course which the Crown intends to pursue at the next examination of the prisoner ia not yet known ; but it has been determined that , until farther evidence shall have been adduced , the particulars of the inquiries shall be kept as secret as possible . The following is a list of the witnesses who were examined on Tuesday before Mr . Harcourt , one of the magistrates for the county of Berks , and the Lord Chamberlain : — Mr . Saundera , the general inspector of palaces , under whose especial care the whole of the valuable stores at the castle are placed . This gentleman ,
. having deposed to the etate of the Mores , and given other particulars . relating to them , and to the duties which devolved upon the prisoner , underwent a cross-examination by Mr . Toules ( the jjolieitor to the accused ) , Which lasted ' nearly an sour . Mrs . Pitt , one of the workwomen engaged in the upholstery department amongst the stores , aad who , it is stated , had sometimes they key ia her possession . This witness was closely cross-examined by Mr . Voules . Mr . R . Ledger , likewise in the upbotetery department , under Mr . Saunders . Mr . Mercier , now a night porter at the castle , but formerly holding a- responsible situation in the stores ; and Mr . Donaldson , a clerk in the Lord Chamberlain ' s department , who produced Beveral drawings of the property stolen and defaced . coarse of the inquiry , having left hia ease entirely in the hands of bis professional , adviser On thia subject , a Correspondent of the Morning Herald , observes : —Some very stringent regulations ( it will not be before they are very much-needed ) will be immediately adopted to prevent the possibility of strangers getting into the Castle , who have no official or domestic business to transact within the walls . A very sharp look-out will be kepi for tho future , more especially at the servants' entrance , where , according to the old system an entrance could be gained , in the way T pointed out , with the greatest imaginable eaee . Amount the various sentinels who are stationed around the Castle , at almost every avenue , not one is within riew of the entrance to the stores in the lower ward , where a great portion
of the late extensive depredations were committed . It is therefore in contemplation to place a guard close to this spot , which is now most signally unprotected . Mr . Saunders , the inspector of palaces , has been much blamed for placing men ia highly trustworthy situations at wages of from 14 s . to 16 a . per week ; but if these men really cost no more than thiseum perweeb , it is the system" again to be blamed , perhaps , quite aa much as those who are the active parties in carrying it out . The amount of property which has been plundered would' have been sufficient to pay every man engaged in the de partment of the stores , for jjears to come , a proper remuneration for his integrity , and leave , I dare say , when the whole of the missing property has been discovered , a handsome surplus besides .
