The Daily Telegraph , in announcing the volume , says : —* Though the prevailing superficial character of modern London is certainly newness , there is , just behind the immense architectural growths of the last fifty years , hedging in almost every familiar street , a curious wealth of old buildings , many of them famous for historical associations or as dwelling-places linked for ever with great names . Mr . Wilmott Harrison has been collecting materials for a series of chapters on these , and Messrs . Sampson Low are going to publish the book , with suitable illustrations . Something has already been done by one society in the way of affixing mural tablets to notable walls , and thereby acquainting the wandering Londoner with some of the data of the city ; but a good summary to the same end will be an addition to our shelves .
