then we come to what constitutes the greater portion of the volume—the consideration of
' The Future Destiny of Man . ' This is dealt with in seventeen chapters , all of great interest and exhibiting much thought . Finally we have a
supplementary note and a copious index of subjects and Scripture references . It would be impossible within the confines of a short notice
to speak in detail of Dr . Anderson's book , but we may say that for readers who are interested in the discussion of this subject it should
possess powerful claims to attention . From the Heligious Tract Society . —We can
imagine few more acceptable presents for a boy than the * Boy's Own Annual , ' which , as most ¦ youngsters ^^ ^^^ b Jfc ^ fc ^ BJP ^ k W ^^ ^ f ^^^ ^^ r ^ i " ^ are *^* r ^^ —l — W aware * V ^^^ # ^^» ^^ , y ^ is ^ T **^ the ^ V ^^^^ - ^ mr yearl f ^^^ ^^^* ¦ ^ k ^^ y collection I ~ ^^^ ^ p _ ^^ ~ - ^ k ^ ^ T np ^ * ^ ^ b ^ B of ^^^ ^^^
numbers of the Boy ' s Own Paper . Perhaps the most noticeable feature regarding the literary contents is that they are manifestly
designed for boys , and that older constituents have not been sought after . This is a proceeding that might advantageously be imitated by
other periodicals we could mention . The same remark holds true with reference to the illustrationswhich are all calculated to appeal to a
, boy's imagination without being , by overdelicacy of treatment , too high-toned for his appreciation . The coloured lates are
particularly well executed . Among p the contributors are E-. M . Ballantyne , Paul Blake , Lady Broome , ^ A pb ^ p ^ b scott . ^^^ ^^ p * ^^^* ^^^ ^^ r R ^ V . ^ ^» . of the y , work lies in the charming manner in which it ha 3 been produced from the printing house of Ernst Kaufmann , of LahrBaden .

to the good , old , days of Dan Chaucer , Will Langland ( the author of The Vision of Piers
Ploughman' ) , John of Canterbury , and others . The essential love element is supplied by the doings of John Standish , Allured of Dene ,
Carlotta Langland , and the Lady Sybil de Feschamp . At first the youths seem to have fixed their affections on the wrong damselsbut
in the end all is cleared up and cheerf , ul happiness reigns supreme . The story may be recommended as a briht interesting oneand
