Harper & Brothers , of New York , for the publication ( simultaneously with the American issue ) of a European Edition of this celebrated Magazine , commencing with the New Volume , pec . I , 1880 . Harpers Afagazim , established in 1850 , and having in America ajone a circulation of about ' 40 , 000 copies , has hitherto been excluded from Great Britain in consequence of its containing ^ Pyright matter . This difficulty has now been overcome by special arrangements made with English Authors , and also by specially editing and printing a portion of the worK in this countiy . The first English issue contains the first instalment of a Novel by Mr , Thq , rnaa Hardy , written delusivel y for thi & Magazine , which will run for the first Twelve Months . Mr , \\ ardVs Story W | H be illustrated by Mr . George du Maurier , and be entitled i A Laodicean . A large space will be devoted to reviews of English books by a competent English reviewer , and ° "ier matter of a scientific , political , and literary character will be substituted for similar material of puttl y American interest . 1 " other respects the Magazine will present nil the attractive feature !* which have gained for it Unprccedented celebrity in the New World .
