j An indispensable Reference Book for Publie Librariesy Literary Workers and Booksellers . ; INITIALS & PSEUDONYMS : A DICTIONARY OF LITERARY DISGUISES . PROSPECTUS . TY \ H K above valuable work has been prepared with great care and X labour by Rev . William Cushing , of Cambridge , Mass , ( the successful compiler of Indexes to the North American Review and the Christian Eotaminer ) ^ who was for some years an assistant in the Harvard University Library , and who , in the preparation of this volume , has had access to its vast resources . Especial care has been taken in the preparation of copy , and in proof-reading , to secure accuracy in the text , and the work is now ready for delivery . Its value is attested by the interest which is manifested in its publication by the principal bibliographers in this country and America , the subscription list now bearing the names of most of the larger libraries of both countries , besides those of many prominent literary and public men . The work consists of two parts : — First s an Index of about 12 , 000 Initials and Pseudonyms , alphabetically arranged . Second , about 7 , 000 real names of authors , answering to the Pseudonyms , with brief notices—date of the writer ' s birth and death , & c . Specimen pages of each part , showing the style of type , size of page , and general arrangement of the work , will be forwarded on application . The publishers also beg leave to state that Mr , Albert B . Frey , of the Astor Library , New York , has had a similar work in preparation for several years , and has accepted their proposal to add his material to that of Mr . Cushing ; so that they are able thereby to give the public the benefits of the labours of both these gentlemen , thus insuring greater accuracy and completeness than if prepared by one individual . The volume contains 600 pp ., royal octavo , in substantial cloth binding , printed on good paper . Price 21 s .
