TT 1 HE extensive alterations that have been made by the Legislature in several branches of the J-M law during recent Sessions of Parliament , particularly during the Session of the past year , hare rendered the revision of this work an imperative necessity . The Bills of Exchange Act , 1882 , which repeals most of the previous Acts relating to negotiable instruments , professes to be a codification of the whole law relating to Bills of Exchange , Cheques , anil Promissory Notes . Those branches of the law have therefore been entirely rewritten for this Edition , and made conformable to the new Statute , which is , undoubtedly , one more or less affecting the whole commercial , mercantile , and trading community . The Married Women ' s Property Act , 1882 , for consolidating and amending the statutes relating to the property of married women , confers new and extensive rights upon married women . This statute has therefore made it necessary for much of the law relating to husband and wife , as contained in the previous Edition of this wort , to bo re-writton and adapted to the enactments of the new statute . The Conveyancing and Law of Property Act , 1881 , now supplemented by the Convoyancing Act , 1682 , profepses to confer important advantagos upon vendors and purchasers of property : the object of those statutes being that of simplifying and improving the practice of conveyancing , and affording facilities for curtailing the length , and consequently the cost , of legal documents dealing with real and personal property , whether on sale , purchase , settlement , mortgage , will , lease , or otherwise for The promoting Settled the Land execution Act , 1882 of , for improvements facilitating sales thereon , leases , is , another and other statute dispositions most materiall of settled y land affecting , and rights relating to real property , and enabling a tenant for life of settled land to deal with the property in many respects as if lie wore an owner in fee ; and conferring upon him powers of sale , exchange , partition , mortgage , building , mining , improvements , & c , & c . In addition to which there are several other Statutes of the last Session which , though of less bl Rnificance , have rendered necessary various and important amendments and additions throughout the entire work . * No Englishman ought to be without this book '—Enoinf / er .
