August is , 1890 The Publishers' Circular I 04 S
Ad08901
Commencing in the September 1890 Number IN HARPER'S MAGAZINE , IMPORTANT SERIES OF ILLUSTRATED ARTICLES ACROSS the ENTITLED ANDES , ON CHILI , PERU , THE ARGENTINE REPUBLIC , PARAGUAY AND URUGUAY , THE NITRATE COUNTRY , & c . THE SERIES WILL CONSIST OP TEN OR TWELVE EXHAUSTIVE AND RICHLY ILLUSTRATED ARTICLES , giving an Account of the FIVE GREAT SPANISH-AMERICAN REPUBLICS in the year 1890 . i The Writer begins by a Trip Ecco 88 tbe . Gontinent from © cean to © cean , from Buenos Aires to Santiago de Chile , over the Andes , where , instead of following the ordinary route , he goes to the South of the Mendoza River , and describes , mile by mile , the great railway track that is now in course of construction , and which when finished will put Buenos Aires in direct communication with Valparaiso . This narrative of the mountain journey and its incidents is rendered all the more interesting by the curious glimpses it contains of the hard life of the engineers of the Transandine Line , isolated from all civilisation in the distant Alpine Camps . Other Articles will follow on CHILL PERU , THE ARGENTINE REPUBLIC , PARAGUAY and URUGUAY , THE NITRATE DESERT OF TARAPACA , & c , particulars of which will be shortly announced . These Articles , while being practical and full of precise information , nevertheless pay the greatest attention to the artistic presentation of the countries studied , both in the text and in the pictures . The illustration of the Articles will be profuse and made entirely from new materials of the most varied and interesting description .
