MARCUS WARD'S IMPROVED WRITING COPYBOOKS . H ^ HIS entirely New Series of Copy Books is specially planned to ensure the easy I and rapid progress of the J ^ upit , to lighten the labour of the Teacher , a ? id to secure the formation of a Beautiful , Distinct , and Rapid Handwriting . The style is flowing a ? id graceful in form . The copies are facsimiles of the actual writing of an accomplished penman , and are more easily imitated than the usual - copperplate ' style . A uniform character of writing is maintained throughout the series f . Every letter is formed with a view to its ready connection with others . An approvedform of each letter is adopted and adhered to throughout , thus familiarising the eye with the best forms only . Nor in the Capital Letters is any departure allowed from the adopted form , except in the most advanced books . For the Introductory Books a size of writing has been selected which is not too large for small fingers , and the size is gradually reduced in the following bocks . Every word is written from beginning to end without lifting pen from paper—the chief requirement for rapid writing . The Small Letters are taught i ? i a progressive order . Each letter is introduced in order of difficulty , and in combination only with the letters learnt on previous pages . Each copy is repeated in the middle of the page ( except in the advanced books ) , thus lessening the tendency of pupils to copy their own writing as the head-line gets farther from the eye . The middle line also facilitates comparison when the page is finished . Figures in a large , free style arefirst introduced in Book 4 , after the capitals have ken taught . They are given in smaller size in Book 5 and in still smaller size in Book 6 , where they are arra ? jged as used in practice . , Great pains have been taken in the selection of sentenceswhich are either timehonoured Proverbs , Precepts , or Quotations from Standard A , uthors . \ Books r to 7 complete the Writing Course ; but two more advanced books , Nos . 8 and % containing some Novel Features , will shortly be ready . Book 8 gives models of two , three , and four-line Quotations from Shaksperebringing into prominence the gaieral effect of the lines in relation to each other . , Book 9 gives Business Lette ? s and Forms arranged in a neiu way , calculated to nterest the pupiL Plain and Ornamental Lettering is given in great variety in Book io ? which is superior in execution to any thing of the kind yd published .
