In Ancient Rome A Temple Stands, The Aro...
In ancient Rome a temple stands , The Around tide whose flows aged from feet lands up many .
And eddies through the street . , The human tide that ceaseless pours
_, To And break gather its s wave from s a on thousand Home , shores Its scallop shells and foam ,
That temple ' s shrines are empty now , Its altars dark and bare ,
The goddess of the marble brow Ho longer worshipt there , 3 _STo longer wings her spells abroad
The fevered pulse to heal , And "Were unrelenting deaf to each , if app imp eal lored ,
And * _" Restore The when homage , restore laborious which , " she pains ye seem gave ye s , pay to say ,
I will consent to save . " , Her home was on the radiant shores
_Inhere snow-white Athens shines , How beautiful her servitors , How stately were her shrines !
And how from farthest east to west , " And What by goddess the unknown was so well sea , beloved
So much revered as she ! , A sweeter faith is now enshrined
Her In Athens honors and everywhere in Rome , declined , Her priests without a home .
And even what she nobly taught , And Is banished what she out symbolled of human then thoug , ht
And quite forgot by men . And yet methinks her statue stands
And " Give makes helpful a mute blessing appeal , all , ye Lands , , On Women bent to heal . "
