CURES FOR THE UNCUItED ! HOLL OIVAY'S OINTMENT . — -An extraordinary Cure of Scrofula or Kino ' s Evil . Extract of a Letter from Mr . J . H . Alliuay , 209 , High-street , Cheltenham , dated the 22 nd of January , 1850 . To Professor Holloway . " Sir , —My eldest son , when about three years of age , was afflicted with a Glandular Swelling in the neck , which , after a short time , broke out into an Ulcer . An eminent medical man pronounced it as a very bad case of Scrofula , and prescribed for a considerable time without effect . The disease then for four years went on gradually increasing in virulence , when , besides the ulcer in the neck , another formed below the left knee , and a third under the eye , besides seven others on the left arm , with a tumour between the eyes , which was expected to break . During the whole of the time my suffering boy had received the constant advice of the most celebrated medical Gentlemen at Cheltenham , besides being for several months at the General Hospital , where one of the Surgeons said"that he would amputate the left arm , but that the blood was so impure that , if that limb were taken off , it would be then even impossible to subdue the disease . In this desperate state I determined to give your Pills and Ointment a trial , and , after two months' perseverance in their use , the tumour gradually began to disappear , and the discharge from all the ulcers , perceptibly decreased , and at the expiration of eight months they were perfectly healed , and the boy thoroughly restoreil to the blessings of health , to the astonishment of a large circle of acquaintances , who could testify to the truth of this miraculous case . Three years have now elapsed without any recurrence to the malady , and the boy is now as healthy as heart can wish . Under these circumstances I consider that 1 should be truly ungrateful were I not to make you acquainted with this wonderful cure , effected by your medicines , after every other means had failed . ( Signed ) J . II . Alliday . " Sold by the Proprietor , 244 , Strand ( near Temple Bar ) , London , and by all respectable Venders of Patent Medicines throughout the Civilized World , in Pots and Boxes , at Is . l £ d ., 2 s . 9 d ., 4 s . 6 d ., 11 s ., 2 is ., and 33 s . each . BEWARE OF DANGEROUS IMITATIONS . Sufferers are earnestly cautioned against dangerous imitations of these Pills by youthful , recently-started ten-shilling quacks , who assume the title of Doctor , forge testimonials , and dare to infringe the proprietors right , by advertising a spurious compound under another name , the use of which can only bring annoyance and disappointment . PAINS IN THE BACK , GRAVEL , RHEUMATISM , GOUT , LUMBAGO , INDIGESTION , DEBILITY , & c . & c . DR . DE ROOS' COMPOUND RENAL PILLS have , in many instances , effected a cure when all other means had failed , and are acknowledged by the faculty as the only safe remedy for the above dangerous complaints , and diseases of the Kidneys , and organs therewith connected , generally , resulting from whatever cause , which , if neglected , frequently end in stone in the bladder , and a lingering death 1 It is an established fact that most cases of Gcut and Rheumatism occurring after middle age are combined with these diseases ; how necessary is it , then , that persons thus afflicted should at once attend to these important matters . By the salutary action of these Pills on acidity of the stomach , they correct Bile and Indigestion , purify and promote the Renal secretions , thereby }) rev ' enting the formation of * tone , and establishing for life a lealthy performance of tho functions of these organs . May be obtained through all medicine venders in the kingdom , at Is . lid ., 2 s . 9 d , 4 s . 6 d ., and 1 Is ., per box : or should any difficulty occur they will be sent tree , with full instructions for use , on receipt of the price in postage stamps , by Dr . De lloos . Testimonials , to test the genuineness of which Dr . De Roos solicits enquiry from the persons themselves : — Robert Johnson , Ludlain-street , Bradford— " Your valuable pills have so improved my friend in Scotland , that he has solicited me to send him another box , as he feels assured that it will cure him ; you can use our names as you thii . lt proper , that others suffering may be convinced of their value . —Direct to Mr . Johu Farquhar , Weaver , & c , Kinross , Scotland . " Mr . J . Highum , Burwell— " I am happy to say that the person , though he has taken only one box , is a wonderful deal butter , and will recommend them to any one so suffering . " Address , WALTER D E 11 OO 3 , M . D ., 3 "> , lily-Place , Ilolbornhill , London . Hours : Ten till One , and Four till Eight , Sunday excepted , unless hv previous arrangement . To prevent fraud on the public by unprincipled persons , her Majesty's Honourable Commissioners of Stamps have directed the name of thu Proprietor to be engraved on tho Government Stamp attlaed to all his Medicines , in white letters on a red ground , without which none is genuine .

INTENDING LIFE ASSURERS are respectfully invited to compare the Principles , Rates , and whole Provisions of the SCOTTISH PROVIDENT INSTITUTION with those of a > y other existing Company . The WHOLE PROFITS are divisible among the Assured , who are , at the same time , specially exempt from personal liability . It thus possesses an obvious advantage over any Proprietary Company . As compared with other Mutual Offices , it claims superiority in the following particulars : — 1 . PREMIUMS AT EARLY AND MIDDLE AGES ABOUT A FOURTH LOWER . ( See below . )* 2 . A MORE ACCURATE ADJUSTMENT OF THE RATES OF PREMIUM TO THE SEVERAL AGES . 3 . A PRINCIPLE IN THE DIVISION OF THE SURPLUS MORE SAFE , EQUITABLE , AND FAVOURABLE TO GOOD LIVES . 4 . During last year 557 Policies were opened , —above 4000 having been issued since the commencement of the Institution . Forms of Proposal . JAMES EPPS'S PREPARED COCOA . Cocoa is a nut , which , besides farinaceous substance , contains a bland oil . The oil in this nut has one advantage , which is that it is less liable than any other oil to rancidity . Possessing these two nutritive substances , cocoa is become a most valuable article of diet , more particularly if ,, by mechanical or other means , the farinaceous substance can be so perfectly incorporated with the oily that the one will prevent the other from separating . Such a union is presented in the cocoa prepared by James Epps , Homoeopathic Chemist , \ 112 , Groat Itussell-street , Bloomsbury , London ; and thus , while ^ ie delightful flavour , in part dependent on the oil , is retained , the whole preparation will agree with the most delicate stomach . Jam ? 8 Epps's name and address is on each packet . The address of any local Agent forwarded immediately on application .
