The Company was originally a strictly Proprietary one . The Assured now participate quinquennially iu four-fifths of the amount to be divided : To the present time ( 1854 ) the Assured have received from the Company in satisfaction of their claims , upwards of 1 , 480 , 000 ? . The amount at present assured is 3 , 000 , 000 Z . nearly , and the income of the Company exceeds 1 S 0 . 000 Z . per annum . At the last Division of Surplus , about 120 , 0002 . was added to the sums assured under Policies for the whole term of Life . \ . The lives assured are permitted , in time of peace , without extra charge , to reside in any country ( Australia and California excepted ) north of 33 degrees north latitude , or south of 33 degrees south latitude , or to pass by sea ( not being seafaring persons by profession ) between any places lying in the same hemisphere , and not within those limits . Assurances effected by ^ ersons on their own lives are not rendered void in the event of death occurring by suicide , duelling , or the hands of justice , unless such death take place within one year from the date of the Policy . AH Policy Stamps and Medical Fees are now paid by the Company . The Annual Reports of the Company ' s state and progress , Prospectuses and Forms , may be had , or will be sent , post free on application at the Office , or to any of the Company ' s Agents . ,
