- ? ' .. . London , Friday Evening , March 20 , 1857 . The funds have remained very languid all the week . The rise to day has been slight , but still it is a rise , of I per cenfc . The corning election , and expenses attending thereto , will of course influence all the markets more _ or less . The calculation by some persons is that one million and more will change hands—to use a mining share term—during the election , necessary and incidental expenses . Bribery in any form of course is out of the question . The same authorities estimate , that two hundred new members will sit in the new House . ; Lord John at last is receiving tardy justice at the hands of the electors of London , and the current turns in his favour , now that each man has time to weigh well the blague of Lord Palmerston and his thick and thin supporters . Lord John ' s name will probably head the poll .
I » i foreign stocks , there has been some active dealings in Turkish Six arid Four per Cents ., also in Mexican , since the arrival of the last mail . The attempt at raising a new Spanish loan seems quite futile . We hear nothing of M . Mires or his coadjutors now . In the foreign railway shares , Paris and Lyons show marked improvement . Lonibardo-Venetian , on the contrary , are very flat . All the French shares are well suppotted- The rise in Riga and Dunabury , Pernambuco , and Sasnbre and Meuse , continues . Grand Trunk of Canada are very- firm , both Stock and Bo » nds . Great "Western of Canada are also in demand , at 26 J , 26 | . Eastern Counties have had a slight relapse , in common with all shares , since the announcement of the dissolution ; but the disposition is so evidently upwards , that nothing but the high price of money keerjs such securities back . Joint-Stock Banks are not in very " great favour . The Eastern Bank of London has wisely concluded to wind up its affairs , and thus close without a loss .
The Australian bank shares have been severally acted upon by the somewhat chimerical notion of the " currency lads" of having a Government National Bank of Sydney or Australia , and thus act in opposition to those establishments in Australia , the result of private enterprise . » » 'lhere has been a great deal of business ia British mines . Tincroft Trewcatha , Wheal Margery , Wheal Woey , Great ~ Wheal Vor , Great Alfred , Alfred Consols , and Herodsfoot , have been inquired after . In foreign mines , United Mexicans have fallen 15 s . per share , owing to a report circulated by a daily paper that the lodes had " given cut . " The company who have the latest intelligence distinctly deny this . " _ Amongst miscellaneous shares , London General Omnibus is well thought of , and commands a good premium . North British Australasian is settling its "Bon Accord" mine property to a new company , the North British Company shareholders to have the preference in allotting shares . This mine adjoins the famous Burra Burra , and the Bon Accord lodes are believed to be identical with its celebrated neighbour .
The decrease m Bullion at the Bank is said to be not over 17 , 000 ; . At four o'clock , Consols close for April account , 93 i , f ; Turkish , 984 , 1 . " THE MEDICAL CIRCULAK " JL ON DR . DE JONGH'S LIGHT BIIOWK COD LIVER OIL . " Much of the Pale Oil sold in the niartet is found to be nothing more than Skate Oil —a fact which will account for the failures which , have so > frequently attended the use of the so-called Cod Liver Oil . The utmost reliance may be placed upon the experimental researches of Dr . de Jongh , who is ouo ' of the most eminent of European chemists ; the Oil procured by him enjoys also the additional sanction of the opinion of Baron .
