ON the PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES which incessantly take place in the Human Economy duxing Life . By JAMES COCKLE , Surgeon . " Life ' s like a gentle stream . Forever changing , yetunperceived the change . " Most important is the part allotted to the digestive organs in the economy . It is there the first of a scries of changes commences , concerned in effecting , ultimately , the nutrition of the individual—changes so necessary to the continuance of lifo , that almost every other act is subordinate to them , inasmuch as these organs affording the material of action for the others , may be regarded , physiologically , as original powers , which maintain the wonderful and complete machinery of the body in continuous action . These facts premised , the claims of these organs to our attention will be sufficiently obvious , more particularly with reference to a diseased condition . The disorders of the digestive organs , which impair the health , have a two-fold operation : first , by the local symptoms of indigostion , arising from the detention of indigested matters , morbid in quality and quantity , and secondly by the constitutional disturbance occasioned by the absorption of these matters into the circulation , and powerfully irritating the nervous system . The treatment of such disorders must be palliative and curative : the first , of course , would consistof regulated diet , &c . —the second , of aromatic , tonic , and aperient medicines . To fulfil these latter indications , Mr . COCKLE'S ANTIBILIOUS PILLS are confidently recommended ; as by combining aromatic , tonic , and aperient properties they remove all oppressive accumulations — regulate the secretion of the Jiver — strengthen tho stomach—induce a healthy appetite—and impart tranquillity to the nervous system . —18 , New Ormond-street , London . % Mr . Cockle ' s Tills may be had of all Medicine-vendors , in boxes at Is . l $ d ., 2 s . 9 d ., 4 s . 6 d ., and in family boxes at 11 s .

HEALTH WHERE 'TIS SOUGHT . HOLLOWAY'S PILLS . —Cure of a Case of Weakness and Debility , of Four Years * standing . Extract of a Letter from Mr . William Smith , of No . 0 , Little Thomas-street , Gibson-street , Lambeth , dated Dec . 12 , 1849 . 11 To Professor Hollow ay , " Sin , —I beg to inform you that for nearly five years I hardly knew what it was to have a day ' s health , suffering from extreme weakness and debility , with constant nervous headaches , giddlnosB . and sickness of the stomach , together with a great depression of spirits . I used to think that nothing could benefit me , as I had been to many medical men , aome of whom , after doing all that was in their power , informed me that they considered that I had some spinul complaint beyond the roach of cure , together witli a very disordered state of the stomach and liver , making my case so complicated that nothing could bo done for me . One day , being unusually ill and in a dejected state , I saw your Pills advertised , and resolved to give them a trial , more perhaps from curiosity than with a hope of being cured , however 1 soon found myself better by Uking them , and so I went on persevering in their use for six mouthy , when I am Uuppy to aay they effected a perfect cure , ( Signed ) WILLTAM SMITH , " ( frequently called EDWARD . )" Sold nt the Establishment of Professor Hoilowav , 2 M , Strand ( near Temple IWir . ) London , ai . d by most all nsspnistabio Drusr jjistH an » l DeaUsrH in Mudicinu throughout the civilized World , at the following prices—U , I . ^ ri ,, 2 s . OCTOBER CIRCULAR , 1850 . —We wish to draw a comparison between the different classes of Tea , viz ., the Commonest , which is always subject to extreme fluctuations ; the Medium , which maintains a more equable value , and forms the great bulk of Tea used in thi 3 country ; and the Finer Sorts , which , owing to their limited use , are ( like the commoner ) speedily affected in price by a large or insufficient supply . In addressing ourselves to this point , we would remind the public that all Tea , bad or good , the best or the most worthless , pays an uniform duty , of 2 s . 2 £ d . per lb ., and is necessarily subject to equal charges for freight , porterage , wharfage , dock dues , &c . &c ; consequently the commonest is much heavier taxed , in proportion to ita real or marketable value , than either the medium or the finest class Teas : thus , whilst at present — The price of Common Congou , in Canton , \ It follows that Cornis 7 d . to 8 d . per II ) . f mon Congou pays , The freight , dock dues , &c . 4 d . — I in charges & duty , The duty 2 s . 2 . ^ d . — J 400 per cent . JAMES EPPS'S PREPARED COCOA . Cocoa is a nut , which , besides farinaceous substance , contains a bland oil . The oil in this nut has one advantage , which , is that it is less liable than any other oil to rancidity . Possessingthese two nutritive substances , cocoa is become a most valuable article of diet , more particularly if , by mechanical or other means , the farinaceous substance can be so perfectly incorporated with the oily that the one will prevent the other from separating . Such a union is presented in the cocoa prepared by James Epps , Homoeopathic Chemist , 112 , Great Russell-street , Bloomsbury , London ; and thus , while the delightful flavour ^ in part dependent on the oil , is retained , the whole preparation will agree with the most delicate stomach . James Epps ' s name and address is on each packet . The address of any local Agent forwarded immediately on application .

QASSAFRAS CHOCOLATE . — Dr . DE LA O MOTTE'S nutritive , health - restoring , AROMATIC CHOCOLATE , prepared from the nuts of the Sassafras tree . This Chocolate contains the peculiar virtues of the SASSAFRAS root , which has been long held in great estimation for its purifying and alterative properties . The AROMATIC QUALITY ( which is very grateful to the stomach ) most invalids require for breakfast and evening repast to PROMOTE DIGESTION , and to a deficiency of tins property in the customary breakfast and supper may , in a great measure , be attributed the frequency of cases of INDIGESTION generally termed BILIOUS . It has been found highly beneficial in correcting the state of-. the digestive organs , &c , from whence arise many diseases , such as eruptions of the skin , gout , rheumatism , and scrofula . In cases of DEBILITY of the STOMACH , and a sluggish state of the liver and intestines , occasioning flatulences , costivencss , &c , and in spasmodic asthma , it is much recommended . Sold in pound packets , price 4 s ., by the Patentee , 12 , SOUTHAM PTON-STREET , STRAND , LONDON ; by appointed Agents , Chemists , and others . N . B .
