i * greater thariever , ; and the' maifceta-generally are in . consequencefirmv In Mark-lane tOrday the buyers ¦ were not numerous , but there was no decline in price The sugar market , too * has become firmer than it was * though there is no alteration in it to-day from yesterday . Floating cargoes are sought after . Coffee is in demand , but the prices are considered high . To-day the market was steady . Generally , in Mincing-lane , the markets are , more than they -were , satisfactory for the importers and sellers . From the manufacturing districts we hear of a continued slackness in Manchester , in consequence of the orders from India failing , Otherwise those districts enjoy great and general prosperity . ± Ms pleasant to hafe such facts to record week after week , though they are extremely interesting .

New National Bank op Turkey . —We find the following in the Times : —Another move has been made towards the formation of a national bank of Turkey . A concession was granted by the Government some two or three years since to certain persons , ; -who then undertook to find capitalists able and willing to carry out the project of'a national bank . Messrs . Gladstone and liodocanachi , both of London , have now undertaken the task , and have deposited the : 20 , 000 Z . caution money . The capital of the barrtfc is fixed at l , 000 , 000 Z ., power being given to raise it to 3 , 000 , OOOZ . The concessionaires are to have the exclusive privilege of circulating notes , and the withdrawal of the remainder of the kaimus is
therefore a necessary feature of the scheme . During the first year of its operations the "bank is to limit the amount of its notes in circulation to double the value of the bullion in its coffers , after the expiration of which period the notes issued may be to the . specie in hand in the ratio of three to one . Bills bearing three good signatures will be discounted , and deposit accounts kept . This project has been so incessantly before the public during the last three years- ^ -ever too on tlie verge of completion , that one has naturally become sceptical with regard to its proximate accomplishment ..
ifBEffCH Trade with the East . —The Chamber of Commerce of Marseilles has opened a new trade with Erzeroum , and the report of the success of the experiment is most hopeful and most glowing . The naivete of the hope expressed in this report mustnot be passedover : — " The exportation of muslin and cotton prints all throughout the East , at present entirely in the hands of the English , will doubtless pass into those of the French so soon as the latter shall liave taken the pains to form the taste of their Oriental customers . The beauty of design and harmony of colour , for which the French manufacturers are so remarkable , cannot faii to replace , in a short space of time , the coarse patterns and primitive mixtures of Manchester , amongst people who display in their own fabrics such well-known delicacy and taste . This announcement should put Manchester on its
mettle . . Tjbaj > e in South Australia . —The advices from South Australia by the present mail reach to the 19 th of August . Adelaide letters state that trade generally was quiet , but that the progress of the colony in her mineral , pastoral , and agricultural productions is rapid and vigorous . Stops hare been taken in . favour of the construction of a grand trunk railroad , to run 400 miles north of Adelaide . Copper ton woolI 5 dt 17 d

The extension of the line from Horsham to Petwprth- ~ the first instalment of the Mid-Sussex Railway— -was inaugurated on Monday , and everything passed off satisfactorily . It is seventeen miles in l ength , and has been about two years and a half in construction , and passes through a beautiful piece of flat country , richer in scenery than that portion from Horsham to Three Bridges , and it skirts the towns of Pulborough and Billingshurst , each of which has a neat station . At the meeting of the Recife and San Francisco ( Pernajvibuco ) Railway Company , the report works the sections
stated that-aflfce on remaining were proeeeaing with activity . During the months of June , July , and August , thero had not been the usual falling off in the traffic ; but , on the contrary , an increase of one-third in the amount received . The working expenses on the part opened for traffic , however , had exceeded the rer ceipts by 513 Z . 3 s . Id . Detailed accounts were expected from the Brazils by the next mail . The last two calls , the directors were happy to state , had been responded to with great promptitude . Very little discussion ensued , and the report was adopted .

King Leopold sent his Minister , M . Tesch , on a special mission to represent him at the ceremony , and to compliment , in his name , the young Prince of Orange and Prince Henry of the Netherlands , The Grand Vicar , after blessing the line and locomotives , made an appropriate discourse , and the railway company afterwards gave to a large party a magnificent banquet in- the Town-hall , The railway , as well as itfe branches into Prussia and Holland , now in course . of construction , is the . work of an English firm , Messrs . Waring Brothers , of Westminster , who received the Cross of Leopold from the King of the Belgians , and that of the Oaken Crown from the King of Holland * .
