SIR , Your correspondent of the Academic Sect has , by leading me to Dr . Middieton ' s Works , supplied
me with a slight piece of information with regard to the u Old Whig , " which your former volumes brought into notice . Writing to Warburton , Feb . 8 , 1737-8 , the Dr . says :

The Abbe de Vertot , the author of the Revolutions of Rome ¦ , of Sweden , and of Portugal , wrote a dissertation on the Sainte Am * poulle , defending the miracle ; which was published in the Memoirs of the Academy of Belles Lettres .
He begins his dissertation in the following manner : c There has scarce ever been a moird sensible and illustrious mark of the visible protection of God , over the
