reason . We say difficult , for the idea of addressing a Triune God seems to us to present an almost insuperable obstacle to the grandeur and dignity of sacred . poetry . " TRINITY StTN&AY . " Holy , holy , holy , Lord God Almighty ! Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee ! Holy , holy , holy , merciful and mighty 1 God in three persons , blessed Trinity ! Holy , holy , holy , all thy saints adore thee ! Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea ; Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee , Which wert and art and evermore shalt be ! Holy , holy , holy ! Though the darkness hide fliee , Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see , Only Thou art holy , there is none beside thee Perfect in power , in love , and purity ! Holy , holy , holy , Lord God Almighty I All thy works shall praise thy name , in earth and sky and sea ; Holy , holy , holy , merciful and mighty , God in three persons , blessed Trinity . "
The following is truly elegant , though much too light and airy for the purposes of worship : " Lo t the lilies of the field , How their leaves instruction yield ! Hark , to Nature ' s lesson given By the blessed birds of Heaven ! Every bush and tufted tree Warbles sweet philosophy ; * Mortal , fl y from doubt and sorrow : God provideth for the morrow !'
Say , with richer crimson glows The kingly mantle than the rose ? Say , have kings more wholesome fare Than we , poor citizens of air ? Barns nor hoarded grain have we , Yet we carol merrily ; Mortal , fl y from doubt and sorrow ! God provideth for the morrow ! One there lives whose guardian eye Guides our humble clestiiiy : One there lives , who , Lord of all , Keeps our feathers lest they 'fell . Pass we blithely then the time , Fearless of the snare and lime ; Free from doubt and faithless sorrow—God providetJh for the morrow !" As a specimen of a totally different style w € insert a very bold jWmn for the first Sunday after Trinity , and shall close our extracts by £ he beautiful and nearly perfect address , for Hymn it cannot be called , to Jerusalem :
