in the book of the Revelation we liave an account of four such animals , who have each * six wings / with * eyes before and behind , ' who * cease not day nor night from saying , Holy , holy , holy , Lord God Almighty , which was , and is , and is to come . ' ' The first beast was like a
liou , the second was like a calf , the third beast had the face of a man , and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle . ' From the English translation of some of the beautiful fables of the German author , Herder , inserted in
one of your numbers for the year 1808 , I make the following extract — - ' Thou shalt see me , said the Angel , in my native glory , and shalt hear as I do the voice of all living things . He then touched me with the palm branch be held in his hand , and ascended into the air . How
inconceivably glorious was the figure my eyes now beheld ! what voices of creation were heard by my newly opened ears ! All the living of the earth , with the kings of its families , eagle and ox , lion and man , bore the throne of the Eternal . It was one
glory , one song or praise , one ceaseless motion . Whither the eagle flew , thither panted the ox , thither turned the roaring lion , and man their friendly sovereign and younger brother . It was the priest of nature who bore the sacrifices , and thevoices of all before the Eternal /
