PARR'S LIFE PILLS A RE acknowledged to he all that are required to con . XjL quer disease and prolong life . The extraordinary success of this medicine is the wonder of the age ; it has been tried by hundreds of thousands as an aperient , and has in every instance done good ; it has never in the slightest degree impaired the most delicate constitution , 'fens of thousands have testified that perseverance in the use of PARR'S LIFE PILLS will completely cure any disease , and are living witnesses of the benefit received from this invaluable medicine . Testimonials are received daily , and it would be impossible in a newspaper to publish one half received ; and the following are selected as people well known in their respective neighbourhoods , and whose testimony is unquestionable . Further sheets of testimonials , and the " Life aud Times of Old Parr , " may bo had , gratis , of all agents . The following case of cure by Parr ' s Life Pills is communicated by Mr . C . Ruiter , chemist and druggist , Shaftesbury , Dorset , agent for Parr's Pills : — A' respectable farmer residing near Shaftesbury , had for years been subject to the most distressing attacks of giddiness of the head , frequently attended with severe head ache . The various medicines he used at different times did him little or no good , till he was induced to give Parr's Pills a trial . The very first dose afforded much relief , and he has found them more serviceable than any other medicine lie has taken . He always resorts to them on finding any symptoms of the complaint coming on , aud they invariably relieve him . The attacks have been muchless frequent since taking Parr's Pills , and he believes by continuing their use his complaint will entirely leave him . Dated April 2 Cth , 1 S 1 D . " From Mr . W . Alexander , bookseller , Yarmouth : — You will probably remember the name of the respectable octogenarian gardener , Mr . Cowlos , of Blunderstone , who still ( with his son-in-law ) attends our excellent vegetable and fruit market . Mr . Cowles , when I last saw hiin , a few weeks ago , was in excellent health , and , although eighty-eight years of age , works at digging iu Jiis garden several hours in the day . He still continues occasionally to take the med cine , which he believes , under Providence , to have been the means of conferring on him so much comfort . Since I wrote the above , I have inquired after Mr . Cand , and learn that he is quite well and hearty . The late severe cold weather aS ' ected him much ; but , having taken your excellent medicine , he is quite well , cheerful , aud atle to resume his work . William Alexasueh . Champion Office , March 5 , 18-15 . Lrronxaxr To Emi'loveiis Axd "Woninikif.—A Caso Of Some Importance, As Affecting Agreements Between
LrronxAxr to Emi'loveiis axd "WoniniKif . —A caso of some importance , as affecting agreements between
masters and workmen , was heard at the Leeds Court House , on "Wednesday week , before the Mayor and several of the Magistrates . Messrs . Joshua Bower and Son , p late g lass manufacturers , llunslct , wore the plaintilfs , and a person who -was lately a workman of theirs , named Benjamin Briggs , was the defendant . The charge against Briggs was that ol having absented himself from his masters' employment , without their consent , and contrary to a contract ho had entered into . Mr . Siuigstcr , solicitor , appeared on behalf of Messrs . Bower , and Mr . Sanderson , solicitor , for Briggs . —The contract alleged to have been broken was put in by Mr . Sangster , and
from that document , it appeared that on 26 th March , 1 & 42 , Briggs entered into an agreement with Messrs . Bower , for a period of seven years , receiving at tho time tis . as hiring money . The rate of wages to be paid to Briggs was to bc 2 Js . a v . cek , and -Id . a dozen over work when blowing , and 20 s . a week when gathering , and , 'Jd . a dozen over-work , besides being provided with a house on the premises , or , in lieu thereof , to be allowed £± a year additional . By the contract a power was given to tho Messrs . Bower ot dispensing with the services of Briggs , hy giving him a month ' s notice , or a month ' s wages , but no power whatever was given to the man to release himself from the agreement . It seemed that , contrary to the terms of this contract , Briggs , on the 1-Hh ot
July last , refused to continue to perform the services he had engaged to do , and subsequently left the town , and against such conduct Mr . Sangster said it was the object of Messrs . Bower , in the present proceeding , to seek a legal remedy , as they employed a gieac number of men , aud had suffered seriously in co : ! = equence of their absenting llu-nisclves from their employment . Tho statutes ) under which lie proposed that the case should be taker , were the 20 th Ccoiirc II ., the Cth George III ., and the 4 th George It ' ., all of which , he believed , would apply , and if so , he called upon the magistrates to award the punishment due to the offence . —Mr . Sanderson admitted tii ° signing of the contract , and the running away from employment , but in reference to the act Cth liemrc
111 ., he argued that it could not be applicable in such a case as the present , because it oulv enabled the justices to act where the defaulting ' parties were found , and Briggs was found at St . Helen ' s , in Lancashire . Therefore the only power of tho Lonelt would be under 4 th George IV . This position icing allowed , Mr . Sanderson cross-examined Mr . Joshua Bower ( who is an Alderman of the borough of l . eeils ) , with a view to elicit that Briggs got what is called a " clearance , " or , in other words , had notice g iven to leave his employment by Air . Dower , at a period i ' 18-13 when work * was slack . This Mr . Bower did » confirm . He admitted that lie and Briggs , at t , lC time the latter left his employment , had a dispute about gathering , and that Briggs . vaiil he would leave his work rather than do it , but licdenied that hcliad
ordered him to do more than his share in gathering Mr . Sanderson next took an objection to the contract , under the not 1 st stnd 2 nd George IV ., chap , oh wiiich prohibits contracting for the payment "' ill ( ; wages of any artificer ( enumerating glas .-: makers amongst others ) it ; anything other than ilic c-mri'iit coin of the realm , and declares that if either the whole or part of an artificer ' s wages shall bo paid lU any other manner , iliat tiic contract filial ! bo i " ' : ?"' and null and void . He submitted that in the rcmuncrntion of Briggs , one of the imircdients was cksrjY the occupation of a dwelling-house , and tiad it was fatal to the contract . —Mr . Sampler ( Icciai'fd he mtu
never heard such a construction of the art , and no believed that no such construction bad been iiett " upon . lie contended that it was a solitary c » w intended merely to prevent the payment of servants in goods . It was , he observed , in many trade ; absolutely necessary that houses should be found mr scivunts to live in on the premises , and that it was no more applicable in this instance than where asrrvan resided in the house of his master , in which case lie of course received less wages . In fact , the i-lsu- ^ enttrelv related to the truck svstcm and not in " .- ! else . —After ashortconsultaiion the Mayoraiiii ''" , ^ ' tile decision of the Magistrates as follows : — li
case is one of considerable dilhculty . v , ' .,. many points which require the attention ot tiic J \ tiees , but now , as on the former occasion , wiM' « ^ think wo should bo justified in convicting m l case , the more especially as Mr . Bower has H' ' .. . medy , and no doubt will avail himself ol ! f- . . . Another case of a very similar nature was alter" - ^ taken , iu which Messrs . Bower and Son were ^ plaintiffs , and a man named-John Macattiey I ' had been brought from St , Union ' s , in euKtwy ¦¦ ;* fi with Briggs ) was the "defendant .
