" The absurd and unmeaning technicalities which pervade all other works on Grammar aroexchanged 'for _terihswhictf have a ' definite and precise meaning , il-• _lustrative of tifts things they represent . The Parts of _Ispeecii / a re _arranged on ' _anentii'elyneivprinciple , founded x a _^ philosopbical _consideratioh of the nature of language . The necessary divisions and subdivisions * are -rationally accounted for , and thc principles of Universal Grammar demonstrated so fully that the meanest capacity may understand them as clearly as it understands that two and two make four . In Syntax , the formation of the English Language is exclusively consulted , without ' any unnecessary reference to other languages . " A majority of the numerous Rules given in mostGrammars are shewn to he little better than a heap of senseless tautology . The necessary Rules arc demonstrated upon rational principles , and Ulustratedby a variety of examples ,
