The Com Market. Monday.— During The Past...
THE COM MARKET . Monday . — During the past week the arrival of grain into this market was not large , either of our own growth or of foreign , the ' principal supply consisting of wheat , the amount being on the whole 17 , 974 quarters . The aspect the trade woreon every . market day was anything butlively , various causes combining to contract business , and also to bring with it its consequent tendency , namely , the depression of prices . ¦ The chief feature , however , that must be regarded as influencing the trade is undoubtedly to be attributed to the continued fineness ofthe weather , there being scarcely any grain or any soil but must , afterthe late weather , receive immense benefit from the present ; the relief of the foreign corn , has also a prospective influence , but had the weather been" the reverse of whatit is , " with sueh moderate supplies ourtrademust have rallied considerably . This morning there was a limited supply of wheat and other grain fresh up to the market . The wheat trade opened dull , and , although the rates of this day week have been supported , sales were very slow . Barley steady . The oat trade has been slow at Friday ' s prices , Beans and peas of all sorts firm . There has been but little inquiry for other articles at generally steady quotations . Wakefield Cobn Market , Friday . —We have an extremely limited supply of all grain , with the exception of beans . Wc had u fair demand for fresh wheat , at fully last week ' s rates . Iu other qualities little done . As maltstem have done working , barley is almost nominal . Fine small beans readily sold nt former rates ; other sorts rather lower . Oats and shelling had a ready salo at former rates . Manchester Corn Market , Saturday . —During the week thc business done in all articles has been of the most retail character , and , although it is generally admitted that their stocks are reduced to an unusually narrow compass , the dealers and bakers purchase only from an absolute necessity for immediate consumption . Few sales of wheat were reported at our market this _ morning , and no change in quotations can be made . With a moderate inquiry from the trade , there is no variation to note in the value of choice and superfine qualitios of English or Irish flour * , but middling and inferior descriptions are exceedingly difficult to dispose of , and prices nominal . Oatmeal is scarce , but the demand for this article is onl y on a limited scale . Oats and beans met a very slow sale at late rates . Waiuungton Corn Market , Wbbsesdat . —At the market on Wednesday last but few farmers were present ,, and the business done was not sufficient to enable us to quote correct prices . Millers and bakers are buying from " hand to mouth ; " but , as the Corn Importation Rill is carried , which every one now expects , more business will be done . At to-day ' s market there was very little wheat offering , and for that farmers are asking extravagant prices ; our millers wore , _therefore , shy buyers atthe rates of last week . The Com Market. Monday.— During The Past...
iEEDS . —The season being far advaricedfor ' menurc _* hn « of goods for the spring trade , and the fears lest the » peal of the Corn Laws should not pass or be mutilated * the H 6 u 8 e " of Lords , has had the effect of completely _ston ping speculation . There was scarcely anytime done & the Cloth Halls on Saturday or Tuesday , except to orders Prices are stationary ; ' arid by the caution exercised bv the manufacturers , the stocks are lower than usual at this season ; , the same , cause has produced the same effect in the warehouses . Few buyers have been in the town and their purchases havebeenvery trifling . —Leeds Mercury . Manchester . —We have had only a very limited bus ! nessm cloth this , week ,, but without change in price of any kind . " Manufacturers might have made sales at a slight decline , and to a considerable extent , bnt as manv ' asked a slight advanee , little business in consequence waa done . The market closes very firm . Yarns are a read * sale at the full rates of last week : •*¦ _'
_^ Bradford , —There is a good supply of combine w 001 k and the market is firm . The spinners still buy with _ere'it caution , in the hope that the long expected fall _willtaka place in the price ef wools . There is a fair demand for yarns at former prices . The spinners , however , find tbat before they can realise any profits , either the price of wool must _falb or yarns rise . There is a irood market for pieces fitted for the autumn trade , and a great number of sales have been made , Tho foreign merchants are not doing the extensive business tliey were wont to 1 do _^ HDDDEEsriELn .-There has been a slight faUing off in the demand for goods to-day , but on the whole , considerable business has been done both for the home and conti nental markets . The prospects of trade generally , in this district , border on the bright side , and there Is not the least doubt that , should the great question of the Corn Laws become favourably settled , that commercial affairs will soon flourish .
I Halifax . —There is very little alteration in this market . both wool and yarn are a shade dearer , while the value of I piece goods seem without any change . Richmond Flannel Market . — _«' e hadabetter demand for flannels to day , and more pieces sold , but very little change ir , prices . The wool market was much the same as on the preceding Monday , with prices firm . ; Leicester . —The season for manufacturing low cotton _: hosiery may now be said to be brought to a close ; and although the demand has not been so brisk as last year , it has considerably relieved the worsted market , Manufacturers are preparing for the autumn trade , and large _purchasrs of yarns have been made the worsted spinners are therefore busy . Wools keep very firm . Some Ameri . can orders have been received , but are principally confined to fancy goods and gloves , for which a good demand continues .
Nottingham . — A fair quantity of finished goods have left the market since our last report . But little bas been done in sales of rough , goods . Prices remain unaltered , both of bobbin-nets and yarns . —Nottingham Mercury , Glasgow . —Cotton Tarn : There has been but a limited business tiiis week , and . last week ' s prices are barely maintained . Cotton Goods : The market still continues flat . For most descriptions there is little inquiry , and prices continue nominal : The depression , we think , has been _ratln-r increased since the arrival of the East India ' mid-mail , the accounts received being very unfavourable for Glasgow manufactures generally . Iron : Prices are as follows : —Pig iron , £ 3 liis . ; bar iron , £ 910 s . ; nail rods ,
£ 10 10 s . ; boiler pl _.-ites and sheets , £ 13 13 s . per ton . American produce : Sweet barrel , best Canadian , 30 s . ; sour barrel flour , best Canadian . 30 s . to 31 s . per barrel ; 1 st Montreal pots , 23 s . 6 d . ; 1 st Montreal pearls , 23 s . Gd . ; lard , common , 44 s . ; lard , refined , 47 s . to 48 . ; cheese , States , 58 s . per cwt . The market for American produce continues without change . We do not alter our quotations of prices , as there has been almost nothing doing . The flour market is very dull , and will show no activity till the new measure becomes law . Pots and pearls are nearly out of first hands , and there will be nothing done in them till the new importation . Lard moves slowly at the prices quoted . Cheese is inquired for , but there is little in the market .

Quest At Tlie Doves' Publie House, Hamme...
quest at tlie Doves' publie house , Hammersmith , on the body of a newly-born male child , which had been picked up in the river Thames , with marks of injury / on its head . It appeared from the evidence adduced that on Thursday last , as a person named Edward Nelson Moore , living in British School House Lan & , Chisvrick , was walking along ihe mall , he saw the body of the deceased child lying between tke piles on the bank of the river , near tke sewer leading from the "West Middlesex "Water Works . He immediately
called the attention of George Earlain , living In George Street , Hammersmith Road , but they did not remove it , and only put a piece of matting over it until the arrival of the Hammersmith beadle , when it was carried to tliat house . Mr . T . M . C . Perfect , cf Hammersmith ' Terrace , deposed to having examined the body , and gave his decided opinion that it had come to its death from the effects of the violence it had received on its head . It hail received no medical attention at its birth . The Jury returned averdict of * ' Wilful Murder " against some person or persons unknown .
