London Cons Exchasos, Monday, Ja.V. 26.—...
London Cons _Exchasos , Monday , Ja . v . 26 . — The corn market was but scantily supplied during last week with grain of any description , a few cargoes of wheat from abroad being the principal arrival ; in the whole about equal to 10 , 000 quarters . A moderate quantity of English flour also got up , say about 3 , 000 sacks , and we had also 500 barrels reported from _Ndw York . The general amount of business transacted during the week was small , anticipation being at its height respecting the contemplated modification of thc existing law . The statemont of Sir Robert Peel on Thursday night imparted a firmer tone to tlie market on Friday , and holders of bonded grain were indisposed to sell at anything like late rates , but in the absence of actual disposition to purchase , thc effect was one of anticipated rather than of real advantage ; on tiic _wliole , however , the
announcement ot a change was _lo-ked upon as favourable to business , both on the part of factors and consumers . This morning the supply fresh up was vorv short of wlieat , and but limited of other grain . The condition of much of tlie wheat coming " to hand is very second rate . Business has been done in wheat at last week ' s rates , and the trade must be considered fully as good as on this day week . The finest descriptions of malting barley find a fair sale , but for otlier sorts the demand still remains inadequate to the supply . In oats , either , of Irish or foreign varieties , prices aro unchanged . Beans have met a fair inquiry at firm rates , and white peas arc also in quite as much demand , hut not higher . In tho seed market the only change is in canary seed , which has advanced fully 4 s . per quarter .

Loxbon' S.Mitiifield Catt-E Market, Mond...
_LOXBON' S . MITIIFIELD _CaTT-E MARKET , MONDAY , Jak . 215 . —The arrivals of foreign cattle into tlie port of London during the last week have comprised 70 head of oxen , 24 ) 5 cows , U calves , and 1 , 2 ( _W sheep , being the largest importation since the commencement of the trade . Tlio gradual increase of the number exported from Holland during the past year , and the fact of there being a diminution up to the present period , is fully corroborative of tlie remarks which have appeared under this head upon several occasions since * tlie new tariff came into operation . The increasing extension of the trade is sufficient evidence of its being remunerative , wnilst the circumstance of meat of every kind throughout tlio whole of the past year having been considerably higher in price than during preceding years-, establishes the fact ofthe importation having had no depressing influence upon the London market . The
total supply of meat tliis morning was remarkably short for the time of year , and this , together with a good attendance of butchers disposed to purchase freely , produced a brisktradeforeverything . Prices were firm throughout , and clearances were effected very quickly ,. The number of beasts on sale was oMi or flue average _utility , which met with an excellent trade at 4 s . -Id . for prime small Scots , and 4 s . for middling : beef ; inferior animals went at from 3 s . 2 d . to os . Sd . per stone . Of sheep there were only 18 , 701 . head in thc market , which is considerably below the average number . The mutton trade ' was particularly active , and all sold before the close , at prices ranging from Is . 2 d . up to -3 s . 4 d „ half-bred ;* brought 3 s . per stone , down 5 s . id ., and polled eweg 4 s . 2 d ., and wethers -4 s . Oil . to is . Sd . There wero only 5 S calves on offer -to-day , which found spirited purchasers at from 4 s . Sd . io os . Cd . The pork trade was firm at from 43 . Gd . up to 5 s . Gd .

RiciiMOXD Corn Market , Jasuarv 24 . —We had a plentiful supply of grain in our market to-day , but many ofthe samples , were very bad . Wheat sold from 4 s . _bd . to 0 s . ; oats , 2 s . 9 d . to 3 s . Od . ; barley , Is . to is . 3 d . ; beans , 0 s . Cd . to 6 s ' . ' per bushel . Liverpool Cons Market , J ax . 27 . —The arrival . } of wlieat and Hour from foreign ports ar . again considerable ; of the latter 42 , S 34 barrels are received . The thick darkness which has hung over the com trade for some time past was greatly dispelled by thu Ministerial announcement of last Thursday , when it became obvious that thc long shackled ' state iu which the commerce ofthis kingdom hasbeen bound , was to cease at no distant period , and the light o £ free trade let in upon us ; but notwithstanding thu
presumed near approac _!* : to this state , very littla disposition was manifested to purchase bonded praduce , and holders of free wheat and Hour were not at all pressing sales , consequently little business occurred cither here on Friday , or at Manchester oit Saturday , and prices must , be considered m < rely nominal . "We regret to say our accounts from Ireland the last few days , respecting the potatoes , are gloomy indeed . Exported to Ireland from the 20 th tothe * 2 _. t _ i instant , inclusive—14 ) 1 qrs ., Indian _covn ; ditto , coastwise , 42 qrs . wheat , 115 sacks and . 520 barrels flour . At this morning ' s market there was a moderate business effected in wheat at about tli _. ratcs ofthis day week . Oats , barley , and beans were each the turn in favour of the buyer , and as regards the vend of sack and barrel Hour , as also oatmeal , ic was limited . Jn bond , rather higher prices wero asked , but we believe to very little purpose .
Avakkvieli ) Cons _Market , Friday , Jax . 23 . —Tho arrivals of all grain arc moderate this week . There is a much better feeling in thc wheat trade thin morning , and a fair business was transacted in all descriptions of wheat , at fully late prices . Barley , except the finest qualities , in limited request , without ; alteration in value . Beans scarce , and in good request . Oats and shelling each maintained the prices of Friday last . Malt as before . Manchester Cons Market , Saturday , Jas . 2 ! . —
During the week rather more inquiry for Hour has been experienced , without , however , leading to much actual extension ol * business , * whilst for oats and oatmeal thc demand lias continued on the same restricted scale as previously noted . At our market this morning the transactions in all articles were of a limited character , and , except for oats , choice cuts of oatmeal , and extra superfine qualities of flour , whiclt fully supported their value in the few sales _cllcctcd _, wc repeat nominally the currency of this day sc _' n _« night .
_BiiiMisoiiAM Cors Ejcciiasge , Tuksday . —At this day ' s market the wheat trade was again very dull and lifeless ; but holders were not disposed to accept lower prices . For fine malting barley rather moro money might have boon obtained , but other qualities aslow sale . There was more doing in oats and beans , at hist week ' s rates . Nkwoastle Corn Market , Tuesday . —We had a small supply oi ' wheat at this day ' s market from the growers , with good arrivals coastwise , the demand for which proved limited at hist Saturday ' s rates , lor barley we had an cxtrem . _slotv sale , and when _salea were miv ' _ie a decline of Is . p «* quarter had to be sub « mitted to . lit malt there was iittlo or nothing doing . % « _0 was in little request at late rates .
