Extract of a letter from Mr . J . II . AlHday , 209 Higli . 3 treet , Chellcnliam , dated January 22 ml , 185 D . Bui—My eldest son , when about three years of age , was affl icted with a glandular swelling in the neck , which after a short time broke out into an ulcer . An eminent medical man pronounced it as a very bad case of scrofula , and weeribed for a considerable time without effect . The disease " then , for years went oh gradually increasing in virulence , when besides the ulcer in the neck , another formed below the left knee , and a tluvd under the eye , besides seven others on the left arm , with a tumour between the eves which was expected to break . During the whole of the time my suffering boy had received the constant advice of the most celebrated medical gentlemen at Cheltenham , wMo « hciue for several mouths at the General Hospital

PRA . KCE . . The eUctions of the officers of the National Guard of thi Seine have been postponed until the organic lav shall have been voted . The National Guard of S'rasburs is to be dissolved . Th ? . ortUr ordered two brigades of gendarmes to claar the rGora . Three or fnor hundred people present then assaulted tlie commissary and gendarmes , and some wounds were g iven with knives . The commissary bating sent for troops to Gen . Rostolan , 300 men thinj horse and one cannon were sent * This foice seems to have succeeded completely in restoring order . Domiciliary visits were made , arms seiwd . and men arrested . The prefect , procureur of the Rspablic , and other authorities who accompanied the troops , were expected back at Mompslier on Thursday .
Thrre was some slight disturbance in the Champs Elysees on Suuday afternoon . The President was taking his usual ride , when a small group of workmen suirounuVd him and cried ' Vive l'Ewperenr . ' This cry was immediately responded to by a deafening slieut of ' Viva la Rspublique , * to -which myriads added the dreaded words of " Demoeratique et Sociale . ' The President put spurs to his horse , and gallopped off , but the rival factions supported their poli 5 ; ci ! opinions with their tuts and feet , and a fi ht ensued , in which some few heads , and still more shiaes were broken . The Socialists are again aakin ; great exertions in Paris and the provinces . The Lvov * papers say that M . Imhert , who bad been arrested two months back for being concerned
in the Lyons plot , expired two days ago in the prison of Roeane , where be was confined . Hi 3 funeral took place there on Sunday , and not less than 5 , 000 parsons were present at i » . Everything passed over with perfcit order , no address being delivered , not any manifestation made . M . Imbert . who was long remarked for his demncratical opinions , conducted , under the monarchy , the ' Peup ' e Souverain' of Marseilles , an extra-liberal journal for that time . After the fuueral of M . Imbert , about 1 , 200 of « . he parsons preaaat proceeded to the CroiS Rousje , to attend to their earthly resting-place the remains of SI . Cilandra , another Socialist . There also ererribing passed over quietly , the authorities refusing , as in the preceding case , to allow any address to be delivered .
GERMANY . The loYiovrin j is , verbatim , the address of Gen . Haynau ( a near relative of the Austrian Haynau ) to ihe Hessian officers , on th : 4 th of October lasi : — ' Gentlemen , —I have summoned you here to tell yoa that I have been commissioned bv his Kojal IIigfcnes 3 to crush under foot that pernicious gang that threatens the welfare of the state . S rs , —the question is , who 13 to rule ? This Godabaudoued , Godless , pernicious gang , or the government which God has set up . Letters from Cassel state that the Elector has expressed great dissatisfaction at the reception the pu ilic gtffe the 1 st Regiment oi Infantry when it re-entered tha town ; the people cheered it loudly . On the following day the Prince sent for the officers to the yalac- , and censured them severely for allowing or , taciti ? accepting such a demonstration . The cl « eei 7 , Uc said , we meant for the officers , for tl : eir rebellious conduct . They ought to have ordered the niea to reverse their amis , and * stopped the mouths of ? he haulers wbh the butls of their muskets ' . 11 is added that the enraged Prince eve : i apokeof the possibility of an abdication .

caurt party organised lazzaroni mobs , which were retularl y headed by a capo , and , as ' circumatances dictated , issued forth with white flags , shouting ' Vive il Re !• Th _ e . official journal ' designa \ ei ' theBe mobs as men whose 'candid and ' spontaneous * feelings dictated their expressions of . loyalty . ' ' - . . 'Now ? on the days a'tove named , these hirelings * of the court were met by a mob of nieh from another part of the c ' ry , who shouted ' Long live the constitutional King . A fight ensued , and tbe ' candid and spontaneous ' were all beaten . Whereupon the government threw their opponents into prison . These unj ' orlunate men are now accused of having shouted seditious words on these occasions , " arid are to be punished accordingly . The trials , like those of the ' Unita Italiana , ' will simply register the means employed by the court party to get rid ofthe constitution , and heap fresh infamv on all concerned .
The ex-minister , Poerio , has lieen removed to the island of Ischia , still chained to a fellow-prisoner . H' . s removal originates , it is said , from the governor « f his late place of confinement having shown some pity for his sufferings . Letters from Palermo and Messina state that , in both cities the government bad ordered the people to be gay during the carnival . The Messina letter states , 'The carriages with masks were protected on
either side b y soldiers and mubs of boys employed 10 follow , shouting ' Long live the king . ' The peopie did not and could not join in the forced fesiiviii « . alibnujh every effort was made to induce them to da so . ' The whole island remains in a state oi siege ; afcer nine o ' clock every one is challenged bj he military guaid . The additional taxes weigh heavily on the people , who are described as bent to the earth by fear and made desperate by oppression f . f all sorts .
ROME . A letter frora Rome , in the 'Opinione' of . Turin , of the 7 th , announces the occupation of Terni by the Austrians , and adds that 10 , 000 Austrians arc expected at Perugia , AssUi , Foiuno , and other places in that quarter . At the same time the Kin ? of Naples is sending troops towards ibe frontiers of his territory . Hence the writer is led to conclude that ihe Austrians and Neapolitans are goi ? j '" /«*•» sicgle continuous military line .
SPAIN . The committee on the government bill for the settlement of the debt have made their report—a report , on the whole , favourable 10 the government measure . The provincial papers are , as usual , full of accounts of robberies and assassinations . Three of a baud of seven thieves were killed on the 1 st inst . in a fi ght with the mountain patrols . Near La Mas-. at , and at Moatsech , a noted freebooter , named Flotje , who has long been the terror of the country people , has been killed by the officer of a detachment sent in his pursuit . Now that the novelty of railway travelling has passed away , the crowd no longer hurries to the Aranjues railroad terminus .
TURKEY . A telegraphic despatch from Agram of the 8 th inst . announces the occupation ( by assaul" ) of the town and city of Banjaluka on the part of the Bosnian insurgents . The ? occupied the city on the 26 : h ult ., and proceeded next to storm the citadel . Although exposed to the fire of artillery from the works , they descended into the moat by means of scaling ladders , and eventuall y succeeded in niasiering the place . The Vizier ' s lieutenant tnok flight . As for the Turkish garrison of Baujaluka , it is stated that the iusurgents liberated them on parole .
UNITED STATES . By the Royal Mail steam shi p Africa , Captain Ryrie , which arrived in the Mersey shortly after eleven n ' clock on Monday morning , we have advices from New York to the 26 th ult . Our accounts received from Washington and New York by the Africa are not unimportant . From ti . e departure of the Canada up to the 20 th ult . little business of note was transacted in Congress . Numsrous petitions in favour of steam to Liberia and from San Francisco to China were presented ; lhe L : eu ; enani-6 o : ieral Creation Bill was sanctioned ; and the Postage Bill received the assent o ! tfca Senate . On the tariff question nothing of
interest occurred . On the 14 ih , however , a serious riot occurred at Boston in connexion with the . Fu gilive Slave Law . A mob , irritated by the arr ? it of a coloured man as a fugitive slave , surrounded the Courthouse , seized the prisoner , carried him forcibly away , and afterwards secured his retreat so speedily tbat all ' attempts at recapture proved futile . Subsequently , in the Senate , Mr . Clay moved a resolution calling on the President for information in regard to tbe infraction of the law . On the 20 ' . h ult . President Fillmore responded , ad-< ires 3 ing to the Senate a long and resolutely worded
: aessage , expressing bis determination to enforce the law , and proposing measures for the purpose ; such as empowering the Executive to call out volunteer state troops in aid of tbe authorities , without a previous proclamation , as now required , < fcc . For the Message our space is quite inadequate , and equally so for the sharp and acrimonious debars which ensued upon-it ; the southern members , of courss , bsing irate at the injury to their interests hy the infraction of the law . " Subsequently , the mwsaje wa 3 n-ferre ' d to the Judiciary Ccmmittee to report a bill in accordance with its suggestions .
Gem-ral Henderson has again escaped trial at Nfts- Orleans on the Cuba charge , the second jury bsing , like the first , unable to agree . Jenny Lind had ; V . r ? ated a g real furore in New Orleans . For the first ticket of the first concert 240 dols . were paid by a hatlcr , who previously had won Power ' s statue of the Greek Slave st a raffl ;; and the proceeds of the first five concerts were about £ 20 , 000 sterling . She was shortl y to leave / or St . Louis , &c , having refused to visit Mobile . Measures had been presened io the Legls ' aiureof Pennsylvania , calculated to realize 500 , 000 dols . per annum towards paying off ibe Slate debt . Our New York contemporary ' s
lists of anicles for the Great Exhibition extend over three columns iu lcng'li ; but one of tlie most interesting appears to bs the model bale of cotton intended U ) \ u presented to Her Majesty by tlie jsroaer , Mr . Merriwether , of Montgomery county , Alabama , weighing 4801 b ., and said to resemble silk in fatness . From Springfield , Massachusetts , welcArn that . Mr . George Thompson , M . P ., had aiisin failoa into roujh company , and had been eoaapslled , by mob demonstrations , to abandon his mission . Oa the 12 tb ulf . upwards of 140 .
