Births and Deaths in the METROPOiis . —Last week the births of 796 boys and 771 girls , in all 1567 children , were registered in London . The average number in seven corresponding weeks of the years 1845 r 51 was 1876 . The official report says :-rln the week that ended last Saturday 1 , 072 deaths were registered in London , being nearly the same number as in the previous week . In the ten corresponding weeks qf the years 1842-51 the average number was 947 , which , if a correction is made for increase of popular tion for the purpose of comparing U . wjth the present return , will become 1 , 042 . The deaths of last week theveiore do not much exceed the ordinary rate of mortality at this season of the year ;

DEATHS . The Earl of Newburgh died on Friday , at Hassop Hall , Derbyshire , in his 59 th year . Rear-Admiral Henry Bourchler , on the retired list , died on the 14 th inst . Mr . O . Sullivan , Consul at Amoy , died at that place on the 29 th July . The Right Rev . Philander Chase , D . D ., Bishop of Illinois , and senior bishop of the Protestant Church of the United States , died a few days sjnce . He was born at Cornish , New Hampshire , Dec . 14 , 1775 .
Mr . W . Deane Freeman , Q . C ., Assistant Bavrister and Chairman of the Galway Quarter Sessions , while presiding on Tuesday at the quarter sessions in that town , was seized with paralysis and congestion of the brain . He never rallied from the attack ( the second or third of the same nature ) , and expired at 4 o ' clock in the afternoon . Mrs . Paterson , of Mauchline , one of Burns ' s five Mauch-Ime belles , died on the 15 th inst ., in her 87 th year She was , when Burns wrote of her , Miss Christina Morton and he
