Wliilo I am writing , I eaanot refrain from coinmuuicating the nittering intelligence of the great good your pills are doing in Leeds and its neighbourhood . It is . clearly a great error to find fault with ; a' medicinemerely because it i 3 a patent one ; and more especially since its use has contributed so largely to the public health . The fact is , however , prejudice is fast giving way , as it always must where the pills are tried . A few cases in point may serve to confirm and illustrate what I have assarted .

CAEilSI ^ . —The council of the Chartist Association , held its usual-weekly meeting at the council room , No . B , Caldewgate , Mr . John Armstrong in the chair . The Secretary read over the list of the new Executive , after which , attention was drawn to the excellent letters of Mr . O'Connor , and the able and well-timed leading article , on the " State of the working people Necessity for caution and prudence , " which appeared in the isortherTi Star of that day . Such seasonable advice will , we trust , have a salutary effect on the minds of the working classes , at this particular juncture in their affairs , and tend to direct their footsteps in the proper path to be pursued : more especially when dangers surround them on every side ; and one iingle false step may lead to consequences of the most serious and ftarf al
character . We fervently hope the people will most strictly adhere to the wholesome counsel of one of their but friends , and so demean themselves as to thwart the wicked intentions of their enemies , and secure the advantages which must inevitably arise from their pursuing & proper course of conduct . Several sums of money were paid in to the Treasurer ; and it is hoped that those districts which have not already paid in their collections , will do so without delay , as the council are paiticuiarly anxious to settle up the whole of their accounts previous to the quarterly meeting , which will take place in about a fortnight , bat of which due notice will be given in the Northern Star . A letter was read from the council of the Chartist Assoc ' ation of
the quiet- and aristocratic town of Pennth , where it appears an association has been formed , and a request made by the council for a lecturer to pay them a visit Mr . Joseph Brown Hanson was deputed to attend on Tuesday , and explain the principles of the People ' s Charter , and the causes of the present unparalleled suffering aud distress -which unhappily exist amongst the working classes of this saidly misgoverned country . We are glad to observe the spirit of Chartism spreading rt 3 cheering aud salutary influence over the agricultural districts of this portion of tho country , aDd we fondJy indulge a hope , that the middle classes will soon see into their grievous error of keeping aloof from those who are their principal support , and on the welfare and happiness of -whom ths real interests cf tlieniselves depend .
SHDGZliEY . —Evtr sinea the brnt 3 l outrage upon Mr . Mason and the people of Utis place , Chartism has beta progressing at a railroad speed . Mr . Fraser Peaxson delivered a convincing and impressive lecture bere-on Thursday evening to upwards of 1 . 0 U 0 persons . Tee people are fl jcking to enroll their names . HeaTty cheers -were given for the champion of our ciuse , for tie fiithful conductor of the Siar , and our exiled patriots , A vote thanks was given to our worthy leciurcr . BECCKiioBE , near Sedgelet . —On Sunday morn-Ing , at half-past ten , a heart-stirring seraion -was delivered htre by Mr . Fraser Pearson , to a vast congregation , under the blue canopy of heaven—a handsemi collection was made in aid of our worthy friend , Mr . John Mason's defence fund , and the seven injured working men of Sc-dgeiey .
NORTHALLERTCN—In compliance with an invitation from the Chartists of Northallerton and Brompton , Mr . Williams of Sunderla-. d , visited this place en Wedn-sday last . It was announced by the bellman that a lecture would be given at the Cross , at seven o ' clock . At the iiour appointed a goodly number cf tLe spirited and intelligent weavers of Brompton marched into the tovra and took up their position at ths Cross . Presently there was a large assemblage , amongst whom there wss a considerable sprinkling of shopkeepers and others of the middle class . Mr . Isaac Wilson , weaver , of Brompton , ia most worthy young man ; -was called to the chair . Hav ng brkflj addressed the mcetiag , Ise introduced Mr . " Williams , who stood forward amidst loud cheering . Mr . Williams then
addressed the assemblage for nearly two hours during tke wao ' . e of which time ha was listened to with the deepest attention and respect , and at the close of his epetch , if wo may judge from the manifestations of feeling , all present appeared to be convinced that the principles cf the Charter were the only just and efficient principles of political reform that had yet been submitted to the nation . Three cheers were givtn for the Charter , three for the Slur and the Editor , three for 0 Connor , Frost , Williams , and Jones , &c Mr . Williams then , accompanied by the Brompton friends , proceeded te the latter place , a distance of two miles . The Brompton patriots appear to have cultivated the a * t of singing to some purpose , for during the juurney back , they poured f , nh the fervour of their hearts by singing patriotic songs .
DARLINGTON . —On Thursday evenin-Mr . Wil- ' lianu'lectured here in ilr Bra ? g's Long room . App i- cation had been made for the Town Hall , where auti- J co n law , teetotal , and any ether description of lectures i and even boxine exhibitions are allowed by the Eaints and fcxy friends , but it was denied to the Charthts . I D ^ ni < -d to them , although not icBg r . go , when the \ Chartist 3 wore likely to \ ut en extinguisher upon one ' of thrss humbug mes-tincs , they were solemnly and publicly ' assured that tha us < 2 of the Hall would ba given to them at any tiine they micht require it , yet when application -was niide , tie h ^ ll could not be had for a C ^ srt ir , lecture . j AKEB . OAT 3 . —At a large aud crowded publis I
meeting of tha Chartist Association , held in their ; Pavilku , on Sitarday night , Mr . Abram Duncan gave a lecture upon the following resolutions , moved by Mr . Alexander Chrighton , end seconded by Mr . David Brown , and carried unanimously ; and ordered to be signed by the Chairman of the meeting ;—lat " That this meeting , having taken into consideration the destitute condition of the people of Ireland generally , and more ' particularly the inhabitants of the town of Ennis , that we express for tht ; m our sympathy , suffering , as they are at present , from the evils of clas 3 legislation . It is with horror and alarm tbat we have learned that j these people , irritated by tha wrongs and tyranny of misjorernment , and smarting under the pangs of hunger , have be « n fired upon , mutilated , and shot dead by tfce police . " 2 nd . " That as this unconstitutional polic-a foice is caCed into existence without the will or con-E = rit of the people , and officered by those in whom the people have no confidence , presided over by a
magistracy utterly incapable of discharging their duties , or preserving the lives or proptrty of the people under tkeir charge , we call upon the Government to make goed the damage done by them to the people , from their private property . " 3 rd . " The thania ef this meeting are justly due to the Coroner's Jury for their righteous sentence of manslaughter , which they have returned against the tbirty-nght of thia unconstitutional and bloodthirsty force , the Irish police . " 4 tb . " We call upon our suffering fellow-countrymen of England , Ireland , and Scotland , to abstain from all tumultuous and disorderly meetings—to respect human life as sacred ; next to it property ; to seek redress from the evils of class legislation by peaceful , le ^ al , and constitutional means—by creating Chartist A'sociatious where they are not , aad extending and strengthening those already in existence . ' 5 : h . " Tbat these resolutions be signed by the CLairm&n of tho meeting , and published through the press as f » r as is accessible . " ( Signed } WILLIAJI Lt ^ DlE , Chairman .
HTJIili . —The Yictim Holbeert . —Such was the eagerness of the people to bear the discourse announced to be delivered on account of the death of Holberry , on Sunday evening , that th « Wilberftsrce rooms were not only crammed to suffocation ; but great number 3 went away utterly ua * bk to get even itto the Etsir case . The heat of the room was excessive ; but notwithstanding that the people ssemed to disregard it during the whole service , which together with the sermon , continued till near nine •' clock . No announcement of any collection had been made , but two good Chartists went among the . people after service , and collected about fourteen or fifteen shillings , which was at the Council meeting r ? xt night madenp from the funds of the Hull Chartists one guinea , for the benefit of Mrs . Holberry .
STALYBRIDGE . —On Friday night , there was a Itcurre delivered in the Town Hall , by Mr . T . Falvey from Macclestttld , on the Corn and Provision Laws , whsn the Chartists assembled , and Mr . Win . Atken from .- Aihton-uucer-Lyne , after the lecture , addressed the meeting atsoire lsDgth , shewing that nothing short cf tho People ' s Charter , will ever relieve the working classes from tyranny and oppression . KUCKNAL-UNDSR-HrjTHWAITS . Mr . J . SimmoiiB , from Sntton-in'Ashfield , delivered a mO 3 t impressive lecture in this town , on Monday last .
ILSESTON , Derbyshire . —We have been favoured wich a visit by Mr . E . P . Mead from BiriniiJgaaEa , whom our Nottingham friends have engaged lor this circuit . He preached twice on tho Common , on Sunday , aud we bear willing testimony that his siyle of argument , his persuasive and kind spirit towards middle class opponent ; , is well calculated to enlist them on our side . His dry , droll , butcutting sarcasm to the hypocritical caaters told with irtecijiible force . The effect of his two sermons seemed to be deeply felt , and ws believe him to bo a person well calculated , as a scholar aud a sound democrat to spread the Gospel of Chartism .
NORTHAMPTON . —A meeting of the Northampton Charier County Council , was held on Sunday " last , at the house of Mr . C . Harrison ; the following delegates being present—Mr . Peet , Datentry ; Mr . Manning , Raund ? , Mr . Gurney , Long Buckby ; Mr . Barker and Mr . Jones , Northampton ; Mr . Chamberlain , Pitsford , and Mr . Roddis , KetteriDg Mr . Roddis was called to the chair . Messrs . Peet and Gurney were appointed auditors to examine the books , when after that duty was performed , Mr . Peet moved and Mr , Guroey seconded the adoption of the report , containing a balance sheet of the receipts and expenditure , up to the 26 th ultimo
which was unanimously carried . It was then moved seconded , and carried , '" That the resolution passed at a previous meeting of the council appointing Mr .
