LONDON . —Tailoks . —Dr . M'Douall lectured on Wednesday evening , to a erowJed andience , at the Three Doves , Berwick-street ; ud on Thursday even-Ing , to a ^ rwiUr audienoe , at the Bricklayer's Arms , Golden-square . Several members were enrolled on botk ev _ ings , and the high _ t sai _ £ a « tion expre—od » t the talented lectures . BXI—_—* H—&X > . —A Chartist Association has been recently formed at Birkenhead . For th « last few ¦ weeks meetings have bees held , and lectures delivered i » y Mr . Jones , of IiTerpool ; bat since the last meeting of the association , an attempt has bees made to suppress the growing spirit of freedom by the bigot * , vho , possessing no 'weapons bat those of force or fraud , strive to ruin , where they cannot refute . The following ii a
brief statement of the facts : —About three weeks ago , the council of the Birkenhead Association , finding that the room in which they held their meetings was too email for their increasing numbers , made arrangements ¦ with Mr . cbadwiclc , of the Temperance Hotel , Chesterstreet , for the use of one of his commodious rooms . They held their first meeting in his house on the 21 st alt The meetings of the Rechabite and Total Abstinence Societies were held in the same place . A general meeting of the former society "was held on Friday evening last , and passed a resolution remoTing tbeir *• tent ™ from 3 n > . Chad wick's honse . On the day following , the y ittaed placards , which were profasely posted , and of which the following is a copy .- —* ' Public Notice—The members of the RecV&bite and Total Abstinence Societies
of Birienbead feel themselves in duty bonnd , as professing Christians ; to inform the public that , in coose-Quencs of _ r . Chadwick , of the Temperance Hotel , Chester-street , having allowed a number of persons , calling themselves Chartists , to hold meetings at bis Louse , they have unanimously resolved to remove the sieetiags of the Rechabite and Total Abstinence Societies to Mr . Parkinson ' s commodious premises , Lower Joy-¦ treet . Besolved ever to nphold Christian Truth , and loyalty to the Throne and Constitution , they are resolutely resolved to oppose every attempt to destroy those principles so inTal _> bld to every Bngiishman . " Comment on this Infamous placard is superfluous , as regards the great body of the people in the m&nuketurii ; : ; districts , yet amongst the many persecutions which have
keen waged against the Chiartists , this is the most Insidious , and , if not checked at its commencement , is the most dangerous . It is a new form assumed by despotism , when the halter , the hulks , and tte dungeon hare failed in their effect . Tyranny has tried tcese , And tried them in vain . It has mnfflxi , therefore , its poisoned dagger , and placed a vizor on its hideous face . If the Chartists do not tear of the mask , and strike the weapon from its hands , they deserve to ~ ear their fetters , The little band who have raised tke standard of freedom , and engaged in the moral warfare at Birkenhead , should be supported and encouraged by resolutions of sympathy and encouragement at every Chartist ir . esting in ths kingdom . Tliey are few in somber ; their assotiatien is in ia infancy ; their funds are low . They should be supported by contributions of Chartist books , Chartists newspapers , and Chartist works . The new form of persecution should be met i-y sending the ablest
of the Charfast lecturers to whatever places it is attempt-¦ ed . Believe me , such is ths fear ia" which Chartism is held in such placeB as this , that bo p * r 4 ecations for political opinions , or political agitation would be atte m pted , if it "were the practice to send the ablest ¦ Chartist missionaries to the spot to reside , for a time , and to inculcate their principles . I merely throw out the hint Mr . Chadwick , the landlord of the Tempir-Bnoe Hotel , should not be allowed te be a loser for hii liberality in allowing the meetinra to be held in kis fcouse , at the risS of losing his l _ dne _ , A blow has been struck , by this act of the professir . j Christian * ,. ' ! at his very existence ; let them look to it . There are many Chartist members of " Rechabiie societies , " let them loot to this act of men who exclude politics fr ;_ m ttxeir deliberations (!) and yet do then little , and their best , to destroy those who choose to hold an independent political opinion . —Correspondent
CARLISLE . —Lsctvse . —On . Sunday evening last , & lecture was delivered here , by Mr . Joseph Brown TTanaen , who opened his lecture by quoting largely from various authorities—such as Xord Bolicgbrcke , Charles James Fox , Sir William Jones , Biackgtone , and other eminent authors , to show the right of the people to the franchise ; and that at one time , in English history , they enjoyed it to a much greater extent than they do at present ; and that while the people exercised those rights , they were much better of , enjoyed a greater amount of eomfor ' s , and were c ¦ aparatively happy . Mr . Hanson thea went on te show .
that in proportion as those righto were withneid did the misery and Buffering of the people increase . Be then proved , at considerable length , that class legislation had been the curse and bane cf this country ; and that the enormous debt which pressed so heavily on t ie people , had been entailed on the country by cmsadaa against French and American liberty : which would never have been sanctioned , had the people enjoyed those rights to which he had already alluded . He then recounted the numerous bad laws which had been passed , for the purpose of benefit ung the few at the expefice of the many , and concluded by calling on the people to be firm and united in their call for justice .

A padlock was then put on the gate , and Hr . K iihami t e Fletcher appeared to triumph . The time
of meeting arrived ; we went ; the r * te was fast . A number were assembled to go in . After waiting to gstiier our friends , Mr . Taylor proposed that we should bold our meeting out of doors , near this K'lhamit 3 ' 8 ihop , bo that the light of his gas might illumine our darkness . Accordingly thither we . adjo u rned , wh : n Mr . Taylor commencad the meeting fey singing " Men of England , " it afUr which he gave them one of the severest casUgations we ever heard ,, and plainly proved the superiority and necessity of Chartism , and showed , while they practised die principles of the Charter in church government , they inconsiBtenliy and with demoniacal zsal opposed them in the legislation of the country . We concluded with three caeers for O'Connor , the Charter , and frost , Williams ? and Jones .
