CORRESPOIfDEHCE .
To the Editor of the Publishers' Circular . Sir , —As injustice has been done me in Mr . J .
Harwood's letter , which appeared in your last issue , damaging alike to my character and business prospectsI must ask you to insert a few words of
refutation , in your next number for those of your readers not in a position to judge the true facts for themselves .
In the advertisement to which Mr . Harwood refers , I described myself , sufficiently clearly I thought , as having — — ^^^ K been " manager — ~ ^^^ H w ¦ of » Messrs ¦ — — ^^ - ^—~ V . V ^ Bickers ^ P ^^»~ ™ ^^ ^~ ^™ ^^ ^^™ " ™ & ^^^^^ Son *~^^ ~^^ ^^ -. ^ 's W ^^
publishing business—which was quite distinct from that firm ' s retail business , over which Mr . Harwood held control—and to say I intended , as Mr .
Harwood ' s contradiction implies , to convey the impression that I was the manager of Messrs . Bickers & Son ' s entire business is as absurd as it is
untrue . To give circumstance to his contradiction Mr . Harwood asserts that I was ' simply managing clerk of the wholesale department '—a gratuitous
perversion of the truth . The facts are that , up to the time of the death of Mr . H . Bickers , I was entrusted with the caTe of
the Harwood publishing . with and the trade management departments of , the and retail Mr . businessthe more important of the two .
, For 'M ^^ A your sati sfaction ^ h A I ^^^ inclose A ^ H a letter ^ M wh ^ h i ch bears gentleman upon who the had subject many , opportunities received by of me knowing from a
my position at Messrs . Bickers & Son ' s . The letter was written some daj r s before the appearance of Mr . Harwood ' s letter in tho Publishers' Circular .
I am , Sir , yours obediently , GEORGE E . LOWE .
