chaplain to the British factory in Canton , and afterwards Consular chaplain . In 1867 he
was made Archdeacon of Southern China . Mrs . Gray is the author of a charming work
entitled ' Walks in Canton , ' while Archdeacon Gray himself published in 1878 an important
work entitled * China , a History of the Laws , Mannersand Customs of the People . ' He
