is needless to say , is a master of this peculiar art . Byron and Shelley have beensubjected
, to his keen character-study , and the result aroused not a few new reflections in the minds
of readers . Whatever one may think of the value of such inquirieSj there can be sliht . *
doubt that Mr . Jeaffreson's books have g the distinct merit of being absorbing in interest .
There is littie that is attractive in the story of the life of Lady Hamilton , the clever and
pretty servant girl who became the pet of fast rilienand subsequently the mistress of the hero
of'Trafal , gar . It may be unjust to speak too severely of this connection . Mr . JeafFreson
displays care and skill in speaking on a subject so dangerous' and delicate . The
impressions he hasforrne < jl , after much diligent readingare in the main creditable to most of the
characters , concerned , and at least one great historical personage is brought upon the stage
in a new light touching upon private character . Setting aside the interest of historical
biography , it is difficult to surmise why the story has been resuscitated at all . But we must
give the author the deserved credit of having produced Mi 1 a - ¦ book - * m - ^^ r- ¦ that will ¦ throug ¦ ¦ ¦ hout fascinate
