Dr . Church was , born in 1815 . After a distinguished University careerhe took his
degree in first-class honours , and , shortly afterwards became a fellow of Oriel College . He
was from rector 1853 to of 187 Whatley 1 , when , near he was Frome appointed Selwood to ,
the Deanery of St . Paul ' s . The salary attaching to the post is £ 2000 with residence .
Dean Church ' s essays and , lectures , stamp him as one of the most graceful and penetrating of
recent critics .
