SANCTITY OF THE GRAVE COMBINED WITH ECONOMY OF CHARGE . THE LONDON NECROPOLIS , or "WOKINQ CEMETERY , is situated within an easy distance from town , by South-Western Railway , starting from . the Company ' s private station in Westminster Bridgeroad . Within those three years tlu > star of the kinp ; rose high , and set again for ever . ~ Mv- Heypato has filled his canvas with figures full of life and iudividuul character and has sketched them with disnriiniiiati . n- # sympathy . .... . We may congratulate Mr . Fleyirate-upon haviup repaired the neslcct of his ' constitutional' privilpgos as nu undergraduate . " There is-abundant evidence that ho has not only collected tho historical materials of his narrative with conscientious perseverance , but has surveyed tho actual scenes of contest with . a learned eye . The result is a vividnnd truthful picture , in which wo lose siKlit of tho labour in onr admiration of the art . . . . There is nothing in the spirit or the conduct of the story which is not worthy of cordial acceptance ; and it has passaws whicli no vulgar pen could havo written , and which few will read unmoved . "—Saturtlay Review , Sept . ^ 4 , 1 S 5 S . " This is decidedly the best book of its kiiu ? which \ yo have yet had from the pen of Mr . ; Hcy ^ ate . It exhibits in undiminished'force tho lively interest its author takes in the historical period to which it relates We commend the book as one which Churchmen may well introduce into their homes and their parish libraries . From tho Accession ot tho House of Lancaster tO VolflII S . From the Commonwealth to the Death ol ^ Qucen Anne . Cloth , 5 s . ~ , ^ , Each Volume ia sold separately . \ " The book strikes us as being most useful as a handbook for teachers . It is just the sort of help for a tutor to have ] vine by * him as a guide to his lecture . r lho main facts ho will nnd marshalled in strict chronological order , and he will bo assisted by references to the statute-book and the 1 old chroniclers . Tho 'Annals * will . in . short , supply the dry bones of an historical lecture , which each teacher must clothe for himself with life and spirit . But tno work will also be highly useful to students , especially for the purpose of refreshing " the memory and getting details into order , after the perusal of more regnlar narratives . Wo trust to see it extensively employed m tho Universities . At Oxford it maybe especially serviceable . A reliable guide to the original authorities , and one which gives its proper prominence to the early history , may , if it falls into the hands of either students or teachers , do something : to dispel the illusion that English history can lie prolltabUv studied by beginning at the momentary overthrow of fenglish nationality , and that , after all the labours of Turner , Liugard . Palgrave , Kemble . Lappenberg . and Pauli , David Hume still remains the one correct , orthodoxnjuid unapproachable text - book for its study /'— Saturday Review . J . H . and Jas . Pahsei * .
